I searched and found several threads about totally white screens and dead head units but that isn't the issue I'm dealing with here. When my truck has been sitting (typically overnight or when leaving work), and I hop in and crank it up, the screen does this strange contrast thing for a few minutes then randomly flips to the regular setting. Is my screen slowly failing? It hasn't been hit by anything in the cab. No water damage. The radio, Bluetooth, and everything functions fine.

    TIA!

I've seen this on many electronic devices with built in screens such as the stereo. It will continue and get worse over time. It will eventually fail and come up all white or all black. Usually the device still works, but you can't see what you're doing on the screen.

Go to https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=/car/outfitmycar/mycar.aspx and get a GOOD Stereo that fits your truck. It comes with free shipping and excellent support during and after the installation.

+1 on crutchfield. Also, I you are wanting to keep a stock stereo you may be able to find one on TW from someone who upgraded.

You can also get replacement screens for about $20 and if you're handy, can swap it yourself.
The screen on my daughter's Corolla had some dead spots and I swapped it out a few months back. There are a few good videos on YT. I was going to buy a whole new unit but selection was limited and expensive.
This may or may not fix your problem but it would be cheap to try.

To shorten my usual posts, likely it’s the I/X chip on the main board in the headunit. Either the cold solder on the chip, or the ribbon cable to the screen daughter board, something is dying, likely due to temp changes over the years. Solder joints broken when cold, when heated up a bit the connection returns.

The heat has been extra brutal this Summer, and now that temps are dipping below 70 at night, then cranking back up to the 90s by mid-day, I could see how this could be an issue. Thanks!
