I've done 7 hours trips each way in my Access Cab(which I own now) and my DCLB that I owned before the Access Cab. Never had any issues, was always comfortable. As long that I had music, something to eat and drink, it was pretty easygoing.

I've thought about the tundra, but the gas mileage is horrendous. And I LOVE diesel.

^ Remember this is the generation that thinks a turboed Civic with a sweet blow off valve noise every time it shifts is cool. :crapstorm:

The Super Dutys are very tough looking, but as others have said I'd drive a 250 and and an F150 back to back. Several guys I work with have F250s and they ride rough...even the fancy King Ranch models.

Also, look around on some of the F150 forums at how many guys move up to the SD's only to trade back down to the F150 a year later because it wasn't as cool as they thought it would be.

Sounds like you made up your mind already. Doing a long trip doesn't justify buying an f-250 so just stop the games and go buy the truck already. You don't need our approval to switch trucks and any successful stores that are told of driving a Taco for hours on end won't change your mind.

Pull the trigger and post up some pics

You mean a truck that's meant to actually work for a living has a harsh ride? Who woulda thought?!?

Sarcasm aside, it's baffling that people buy a SD and then bitch because it isn't as comfy as a car.

As for the Taco road trip, I drove from DC to Tallahassee in one day and it was a breeze. My tolerance might have been built up by multiple cross country trips in a rusted '88 Bronco, however.

5'10" and I took my old taco on a 6000 mile roadtrip - no cruise control either and a manual tranny, and it was perfectly fine outside of the pesky cop in Toronto... Most of it had my moto in the back too, so it had a slight nose lift, but I was pretty happy with the comfort level.

Having driven both the Taco and my wife's Camry from San Diego-OKC and then OKC-Miami and back to OKC, I'd prefer the Tacoma. It was WAY more comfortable and enjoyable in the truck.

I took mine from FL to NY 2 weeks after I bought it, hell I did the same thing when I bought my xrunner back in 05. These trucks are great roap trip vehicles. The offroad/sport seats make a big difference for long trips, so you are ok there. We are planning a 4500 mile 3 week trip to Colorado in the spring and I wouldn't think twice about taking the taco.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, OP.

I drove my 2011 DCSB from Denver to Los Angeles with a fully loaded Uhaul trailer, and though the drive was long, I was pretty comfortable. No complaints with these bucket seats. And, I was driving with a sling on. Might not have been the smartest move on my part.

I drove my Taco 17 hours, stopping only for gas and piss stops and letting my dog out for a quick break. No problem. It was quite comfortable.

Yeah, I can see your point on the ride. I enjoy the truck ride though. I may have to test drive them back to back.

Whoa there chief. I'm not even asking my wife's permission on this deal. So why would I ask for permission on a forum? If I end up thinking its best for me, I'll buy it. I'm not convinced and love my Taco (it's my second one). Just concerned with the lack of room for road trips and kids (future).

The purpose of the thread was general discussion and get thoughts of people who've been there, done that. Nothing more.

Just got done with several 12 - 16 hour days of driving. The Tacoma was awesome. Its not a car, but for a truck it is great!

I had a 1 ton GMC that was a kidney buster when empty, but load it up with to 10,000 pounds of camper, gear and truck, well, then it only road like crap. Honestly if you need a heavy duty truck for work then by all means buy one. The camper was a monster and the 1 ton was really nice, but for 99% of my driving I HATED it.

13 hours is nothing. That is a day trip man. Next week I am driving from CA to NC. 2300 miles in 4 days. That is a long trip. Plus I have to fly back and then pack a moving truck and pull the other car on the same drive.

Yeah, it would strictly be a toy. I have a take home SUV for work, so my POV sits in my garage all week. The few kidney buster comments have me thinking otherwise.

Good luck! Part of my problem is that I hate being in a vehicle for more than a couple hours regardless. I don't know if I could do that drive!

I'm buying my 2013 DCSB on November 9th. On December 1st, we will be driving it 2,000 miles back here. One wife, three girls ages 7 months to 5 years and three days of hell.

In all honesty, it's getting to the 1000 mile break in point prior to leaving that has me worried.
