    Hello all,

I've recently bought a Kenwood Excelon DMX957XR radio to replace my factory unit which was a nice unit with the JBL/Entune/Nav option.
I'm wiring things up now but have been reading for weeks on this and the camera option. After reading about the stock camera, 6v/12v etc I bought the Crutchfield Crux CTY-02T

Also bought the Maestro ADS MRR module to hook up the vehicle controls.

So here comes my questions. Even though I have the factory camera that ran to the factory HU, I am thinking I can't use any of that wiring to clean things up, and will have to run this new wiring to this new camera?

I am guessing I will just run along the side of it, zip tying it as I go? The stock picture of the handle and harness from the crutch field wiring looks like this below.

So at the one end is the RCA connector with a red wire coming off of it. At the other end is a 4 pin, image I guess connector going to tail gate camera and also a red and black wire. I'm confused here as to where both of the reds go.
What I want to do is, have the camera display automatically on the radio screen whenever I go into reverse. In addition I'd like to hit the camera button on the HU anytime I just want to pull up video from the reverse camera. I know there is a red/white wire I believe below the drivers kickpanel that is reverse I believe, so do I tie into that with one or both of these reds. I'll assume the black will just go to a vehicle ground.

Right now I have the purple reverse connected just to the maestro harness, I assume I would need to also connect a wire to this connection?

Lastly, the maestro kit I believe harness came with these wiring plugs, I don't quite know how to utilize them because they are different connector ends, so not sure what that is suppose to connect to?

I apologize for all the questions. I have watched so many video's, read so many threads but it seems like everybody has something different, popnlock or non jbl, GEN3 Tacoma or anywhere anytime camera, etc etc and it seems different so hard to follow those when they aren't the same. I appreciate any help with this.

Well, I figured it out on my own. I already knew where the 12v reverse comes in at the kick panel, though what I wasn't sure about with all my research was the rca cable provided for the camera, has red leaders on both ends of the cable, do they both have to be hooked up, nobody replied here so I wasn't sure. The answer is no. I just removed the old camera and the wiring harness from tail gate to the first connector right in front of tailgate. Installed the Crux camera in the latch housing, ran my harness exactly where the old one was, exited the tail gate, drilled a hold in some subframe and terminated my ground with a bolt/nut here, heatshrinked the red wire and stuffed it in the wiring loom, and then continued on piggy backing a harness on top of the frame on the drivers side, just up to the passenger door and cut an + through the body plug, ran my harness through there, sealed it for moisture, then continued along the drivers floor rocker panel, through the kickpanel and up and over the dash to the stereo. Ziptied everything. I spliced/soldered in a jumper wire from the 12v reverse red wire at the kick panel driver side up to stereo, from there I put male end connector bullet crimped on to the red wiring coming off the rca cable for the rev camera. Connected a female bullet connector off the Kenwood purple reverse wire and connected the two together.
In the beginning I was able to determine I could get camera video by jumping the small ground wire to body ground and just connecting one or the other red leads/front or back to either the battery or 12v reverse power.

The extra plugs/rca wires that came with the kit I mentioned above are for connecting to factory cameras, well I don't have any factory cameras except the 6v abortion that Toyota put in that won't connect to a new head unit, so those plugs all went in the trash, with the camera.

Camera was only a small part of the fiasco, this truck had jbl/entune so it had the sharkfin and I planned on using it for both sat/nav. Well there is a adapter to connect up my Sat radio, and convert over to the bs Toyota connector. Yeah...

Unfortunately the bs gps Toyota connector will not connect to after market radios like Kenwood, I even bought this, hoping it would allow me to use my sharkfin for gps. F$%# no, wouldn't fit anything I got. (2013 Tacoma TRD)

So I ended up just putting the gps antenna Kenwood supplied and sticking it to under side of dash. Android auto or carplay needs this so even though I don't have a radio with the silly outdated toyota or garmin maps, you still got to have gps signal.

Since my factory JBL came with Sat radio, I wasn't aware until far in my research that those days would be over once I launched this entune boat anchor because it's coupled with the factory head unit, so I bought this for 50 bucks or something black friday special.

So besides a trim ring missing from my Kenwood package, which crutchfield is happily shipping one out to me, it's a done deal. Everything seems to be up and running.

So my 2013, which is running strong, I felt just needed an update to the head unit. The jbl package with amp, is plenty loud enough for what I want but the ability to have wireless android auto, video cam bigger than 1 inch cube in the rear view mirror, bluetooth that doesn't cut out, actually being able to Hey Google, see engine and vehicle diag data, utilize gps that isn't 10 plus years outdated is pretty damn cool to me.

BTW, I actually asked Toyota about 5 years ago about how I could update the GPS map files, they said you buy a basically usb stick, and then you have to bring it in for the techs to install it. Why can't I install it, because you can't it has to be loaded with the Toyota computer, and it was like 200 bucks and it would be depending on when you did it, already outdated. What a joke.

I wouldn't call this install Plug n Play, because I spent weeks researching, a couple days soldering connections, running wire. Part of this tine frame was the replacement of my 3 year old Blackvue camera that crapped out 6 months ago, and of course you have to run a new power wire now on the newer units, down to my backup battery.
I also was less than impressed with the fact the Metra kit, you have to use plastic mounts, wtf. There's probably 25 plus holes on each side, and I can't use the original beefy metal mounts. I even ground the nipples off hoping to line up the holes, nah, most I could get was maybe two holes but not 4 on each side.
