There are four more Tacos where I work at, all same model as mine (its the most common model sold here, not all models/packages are available here) from 2012 to 2014, none of them sound like that at startup, so I'm guessing mine shouldn't. The other owners/co-workers were quite surprised when they heard mine.

Does your truck do it at every start up or only if its cold? Mine is only in the morning.

Every startup after the truck has been off for a couple of hours.

Reel Tuff, where are you from in western Pa.? You said in another post that the dealer gave you another new truck without problems, which dealer was this? You can pm me if you want. I'm just trying to figure out which route I should take since I know the dealer closest to me probably won't help at all.

The other problem I have is that I have a Baja model which isn't easy to find around here and I'd want another one if they would switch out trucks.

When they bought yours back did you get all the money (down payment/ payments), I'm not wanting to lose any money on the deal and can't be without a truck.

the only common item here in all cases is timing chain.
oil pressure adjusts tension on timingchain also lubricates it.
oil pump gets power from the gear spinning timing chain,.
hotrod engine got replaced except from timing system parts, and still makes sound.
the only thing that can buzz (resonate) in the engine is timing chain.

So the oil pump sucks oil from the bottom of the oil pain right? Is there a possibility that as the pump is cycling the oil upwards, at cold start, that there could be a leak or air pocket and therefore oil is not getting forced upwards fast enough. I'm still stuck on the idea that oil isn't getting to where it needs to

its a possibility but highly unlikely. Plus that would be easy to spot. Oil light would go off long time after start, and I would assume those techs checked oil pressure as the first step.

What lead them to figure that out?

If anything, this thread has convinced me to buy that extended warranty after all.

He said 4 Liter Not 4 Cylinder. That recall for the 4 Cylinder 2.7 Liter engine is for the Valve Springs.

If it weren't for the exhaust leak I may have caught the noise before it decimated my engine :notsure:

She's getting ready to blow any day now though.

Not sure what to think, started 3 or 4 at the dealer, I think one did not do it, all of the rest did, some louder than others. I have videos I will post them tonight. One of them sounded even worse than mine.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
Update.... dealer called and said that he was completing the lemon paperwork today. After speaking with Toyota on Saturday and having some time for this all to soak in, I put my thoughts down on paper and added it to my case. Details about what happened when, how many trips I made along with mileages, what my expectations are, and questions regarding other issues and my expectations on that as well. All are now on file along with the case.

Has anyone tried a higher 91 or 93 octane gas to see if it made any difference?
