Well fellas, the engine is coming out as we speak! The Area rep will be involved again once it has been cracked open. I expressed my concern that this is where the line is drawn, I do now want that engine torn down and fixed. IMO this exceeds the expectation of the definition of having bought a new truck. Now is when the factory teeters on hero or zero in my mind.

    Do dents and scratches count?
Agreed. You should get a new engine out of this. If they do give you back the old one repaired. You have got to at least get a lifetime warranty out of it.

Best of luck hotrod53 & PM sent. Honestly, at this point it's probably almost a wash for them financially, so I see no reason they wouldn't put in a new motor.

Hopefully soon you'll be off and :burnrubber:

I have a short fuse. At times it serves me well but usually it serves to make things a lot worse.

You, sir... have the patience of a saint. Whether or not it would have completely ruined the situation for me, at this point I'd have lost my fucking mind and yelled at EVERYONE. Counter productive, sure... and probably would make things much worse, but there it is.

Hotrod, where do you live in Pittsburgh? I'm on the northside and have noticed some weird noises at start up and idle lately but I'm new to Toyota's. I bought the truck in Holidaysburg but take it to North Hills Toyota for oil changes (only one so far, just over 5k miles). The noises are usually first thing in the morning after sitting all night.

It would be best to at least give them the benefit of a doubt. I've always been like that.

I expressed my concern again today, once it's out, it shouldn't go back in. No rebuild, REPLACE, otherwise I'm lemoning it. IMO, disassembling the engine taints it in my eyes, that is no longer a factory assembled engine, nor is it what should be expected in a new truck. Not only that, now all electrical and mechanical systems have been disturbed. Even if the engine is replaced, I need a 100K warranty to go with it.

I have already contacted a local lemon law lawyer, yet I'm pissed that he did not respond to my email of questions... not a way to earn my business.

This is exactly how mine sounds every morning when I start it up, mind you I'm in socal and we are barely below 60 in the early a.m. Initially I thought this was just a normal tacoma noise that I wasn't used to but I am starting get concerned. Keep us updated.
btw my tacoma only has 1000 miles on it and it has made this noise since day one.

Mine has 5000 miles on it now and they have been working on it since it had 4000 miles on it. I assume that it has done it from day 1 but it doesn't show until 30 degrees. I got mine in August, the very day it hit 30 degrees, there it was.

I'm wondering if the 2013's having issues were all manufactured at the same assembly plant and in the same month, etc. There might be a trend forming here.

I was wondering the same thing.... I'm kinda doubling mine was built in CA though being that I'm in PA. I'll have to pull my VIN, but I would guess Indiana for me.

It's posible, but the engines could be assembled somewhere else and brought to the plant. Maybe some here knows if that is true.

Mine was built in Baja Cali, Mexico too.

I will say it again. Time for a redesign with newer engines that are not cast from worn out molds.

Mine was assembled in the Mexican state of Baja California. Picked up the loaner today, I gave the service guy a run-down on this thread, complete with print-outs of what they've already tried with hotrod53's and the name and phone of his service manager. Apparently they're planning to replace my oil pump first--the first thing on hotrod53's list of things it's not.

My noise has been with me from the start, but I think it might have gotten a little louder. I'm only at 2,400 miles.

I think you're taking this better than I would. I too wouldn't want a rebuilt or new motor. Just give me a new truck. I hope everything works out in your favor.
