After 13 years my battery died in a bang ( it went out in style). I turned the key, heard a bang, hood moved and smoke started coming out from underneath it. Not too bad for a battery. I've replaced 3 alternators and still had the same battery.

I bet your battery caused those alternators to go bad cause they had to work a lot harder. I mean com’on, 3 alternators.....

Yep-the original one, replacement (lasted 6 months) and the napa one has been in for 6 or 7 years now. I guess I didn't replace 3, but I'm on my third one.

Yep, I've had that happen before. Scares the crap out of you. I hope you hosed off and neutralized all the acid.

I'd take that battery back to the dealer and give them holy hell! I'd tell them you bought a Toyota for it's reliability . Tell them you've already replaced several sets of wiper blades, a couple sets of tires, and even the brakes, without a single complaint, but it time to draw the line. You will not be taken advantage of any more. Tell them you want a new battery, the big one, and while their under the hood, go ahead and replace the engine, because your pretty sure there is a sparkplug going south. Be sure to thank them , on the way out the door, for starting to hold up their end of the deal in keeping Toyota #1 in reliability , and to replace the tires if they look marginal . If this goes well, I would like your help on any future negotiations I might have.

BC fire extinguisher chemical in bags? Moisture could mess that stuff up in a heartbeat.

I'm gonna guess they use it for either soda blasting, dumping in a swimming pool, or making Twinkies.

I would say scary but I breathe those chemicals in often (hold my breath mostly) due too servicing fire equipment, hell, I live by a Water treatment plant. Most of there power is produced by methane because people poop too much lol

Curious, did you do anything to extend the battery life?

Judging by the op's pics, he has a block heater, which you could tie into a battery tender. That in itself will make a battery last.
