I love the truck and I am not really complaining. It is just disappointing that they can get away with building such a great truck then stuffing a shit motor/transmission/rear end combo in it. It is almost like Toyota focused on building the whole truck...threw the motor with no transmission on a dyno and said, "Yep, this one is more fuel efficient because science. Which transmission can we get a deal on? Oh, the one that came out of the Impala...sounds like a great fit...we'll take it!"

No you're just a consummate whiner. You troll through and find anyone that posts a problem and start bitching about how Tacomas suck. The difference between you and most posting problems is that they are coming to ask for help or suggestions. You, you come to complain and whine. Did I sum it up about right? Again, you never answered, why do you keep the truck you hate?

Haven't noticed much difference between my 07, 12 and 16. Granted I have a short 5 mi commute to work with multiple stop lights so anything besides an electric car probably wouldn't do that great. I have seen about 24.5mpg on the highway over a 118mi trip but about 15 of that was behind grandma doing 40 in a 55. Generally average 22-23 which is about a mpg or two better than my '12.

Average for me is about 15 MPG. I have rock sliders, skid plates, a shell, roof rack, and 255/80/17 tires. All that might have something to do with it. I have 6600 miles on mine.

Driving habits, commutes, too many factors to list. Also a single picture does not an average make. I've been close to 25 in mine but that was fairly optimal conditions and certainly not what I see on a daily average.

Mine's pretty close every time I fill up....I do it manually also.

If anybody is getting less than 20 mpg.....

Slide your seat back so the gas pedal doesn't go down as far.....Seriously

    BINGO!!!

I prefer to call it Driving efficiency. I can get decent mileage when my pace is faster too. Its all about throttle control.

No. I didn't. I read it. But you're clearly not happy with your truck if you're saying shit like this

I think the lack of technology in the second gen maybe did not highlight how shitty that truck was on fuel, also.

I went to Toyota today and asked about this. Basically they were not really interested in discussing it. They wanted to drive my vehicle... My question was pretty much "have their been any updates since the '16 came out?" stunned look.

I never said I wasn't happy. I just said it blows my mind Toyota can build this truck and call the motor, transmission and rear end combo engineering.

It is like the powertrain team was deaf and blind working with a very small budget. I really don't even think the transmission is the culprit...this truck is so under geared it is ridiculous. But, if it didn't have two OD's that would probably fix a lot of the problems. There is a city OD and a highway OD. The city OD is 6th gear and the highway OD is 5th.....what sense does that make from an engineering standpoint?

Edit...did you really highlight everything after my first sentence? I guess you did miss it.
