You lifted your truck, put on a bunch of heavy armor, heavier tires and a massive roof rack and now you're complaining because MPG dropped?? :boink:

You didn't mention mods in the first place because you're not here in good faith to seek actual advice, you're just here to bitch and moan and try to get people to pitty you. No sympathy sorry.

At the speeds you describe, it's like putting a drag chute on the back.

No. Some yes, but it is a significant impact over time. No free lunch right?

Also drag is only part of the equation, you still have to account for rolling resistance, all of the friction in the drivetrain..... basically you add up all the equations that will represent resistance to maintaining speed. Don't forget the tires deform too! That probably provides some resistance right?

some people get over 20 mpg. some get 15 or less. never saw a truck that varies so much, just like the transmission, some say there is nothing wrong with it, others hate it,,, they make them with the same parts, how can they be so different

Maybe the people inside the truck are not identical?

I got 13.5 on my last tank, it blows but it is what it is. Nothing we can do about it.

I have a stock SR5 and gas mileage on the tacoma varies a ton, it's been an interesting year and half to say the last watching it fluctuate.

I drove like a grandpa initially and got 24 on average for my first three months (summer driving) then got aggressive for a year and averaged about 18 all seasons combined. The last two or three months I've gotten relatively smart with driving, coasting alot, not gunning it off the line and with the winter gas and leaving it warm up in the mornings I've averaged 21.

Only way to manage better mpg is to drive like a prius owner or get rid of some weight. The bumper alone is taxing the hell out of your mpgs with extra weight and added drag.

The Prius owner I know drives just as aggressive as I do, difference being the Prius doesn’t need to stop to get gas as often as the taco.

What modifications do you have on your truck? Bumper? Wheels? Oversized Tires? Lift? (Did you regear your lift?) Do you have a roof rack?

I’m not very happy the mileage on my OR DCLB. It just hit 3,500 miles. Stock tires and wheels, no lift, the only added weight is an aluminum toolbox, bed mat, mud flaps, less than 100 lbs total. I’m getting 14 mpg in town and 15 mpg on the highway. I have a light foot and would get 16 mpg in town and 18-19 mpg on the highway in my 1998 T100 with a 3.4L engine.

You should look at some Ford EB forums. Some guys say they get 25 and some get 14. Easily as varied as the Tacoma.

My God man, you must know basic physics.
In the real world, it's impossible. In a lab with superconducting materials and a vacuum it's impossible. A roller coaster is impossible.
If, if you could somehow figure out how to conserve (key word there) as much energy going down the hill as you used going up, you would have perpetual motion.
Good luck. Hope you get there.

Kinda sums up all of his responses actually. In a lab vs. the real world...
