I have two thing working against me here.

    1. I have cash, so no money to be made on the % end.
    2. No trade-in to be beat out

Lowest new found in same truck was a OR DC 4x4 left-over 2016 for 35K. I liked the used AC better for 5K difference. If the new one had been a AC then I would be driving it now. Both were red.

And yet there's people that posted here they purchased new ones for under $32k. LOL! I've learned one thing since joining TW, the first liar doesn't stand a chance.
Offer them $30k and see where it ends. As I've said before, it's a good buy even at $31,700.

    .
The ... "Go-Pro" mount ... is standard OEM from the factory.

Get a good price on it after checking it out ... or ... buy new if used price is too high.

Since you have now said the word you implied you wouldn't say, how about explaining exactly what you mean by this? I genuinely have no idea what you are talking about.

As for price, that can vary by region. A $30k truck could be $35+ in TX or CA.

Lets put it another way. I've found when some people purchase clothes, sunglasses or shoes they'll sometimes exaggerate the price they paid (high), we all do it even I. When it comes to cars we start really high and quote an extraordinarily low discount or price paid to make ourselves look shop savvy like you know something the other doesn't. Again, we all do it, even I. I'm not sure why, I'll ask my psychiatrist sometime.
You are correct on price variations on certain regions.

It's just an ego boost. Either that or rationalization. I could honestly care less if anyone believes the price I pay on anything. I have seen proof of some fantastic deals posted here and elsewhere. Some were better than what I am in the process of working out.

The fact is that you as the consumer have no way of knowing what the dealers bottom line is and the right place at the right time is a real thing. The best time to buy a vehicle is when you don't need one.

I choose not to play the game. I looked for the best price out the door and i'm taking it. Depending on the circumstances I could see the OP getting that truck for under $30k if they are patient. What if it was on your lot a month or two from now? I would be willing to bet you would be more inclined to move on your asking price provided you had the wiggle room.

If you have cash, just don't tell them. Finance it and negotiate a better price, then pay off after 1st payment.
I did this with mine to get the recent college grad rebate which required financing.

Also secure your own financing before going in to negotiate so you have another card to play. Every dealer I have stepped foot in has begged me to have the opportunity to beat my ready to go financing. Fair warning, if you do this read all the fine print and double check the APR and prepaid finance charges. Refinancing can be an option if you already have a good interest rate and the dealer offers something close (but with no pre-paid interest added to the principle) and a lower sale price.

Play the game or don't play it, but understand how it works.

That's what I'm thinking.. check for flood damage. Sometimes cars that are flooded get sold at auction and then the dealers ship them out of state where people aren't thinking about checking for that kind of thing

And this is buying it without driving it or anything? Would this be a secondary market dealer? This is interesting info to know.

I think most people think dealerships make a killing on each car sales. In the old days it might have been somewhat true.

I've heard that new car dealerships don't make as much as people would think they do. My dad who is in his 70's mentioned about 10 years ago that it's difficult to get a great deal moneywise like he used to be able to do, but rather you get extra options thrown in or the next trim level up for a better deal.

Apologies about all the questions I listed here, but just wondering about your thoughts on all these things.

I think the dealers make more money on some lines than others. Gm, Ford and dodge are known to make most of their profit from their pickup lines because the assembly process has been basically the same for so long.. when they try to shift gears and get into different platforms like hybrids and different chassis designs those assembly lines aren't as profitable. Alot of the cash from the truck sales go to supplement the more experimental lines where they are trying to what sticks or what people will show an interest in..

I just did this on a car. At first I thought it was a scam. Then I eventually realized I was getting such a deal that they were trying anything to make money. At least I could figure it out. And luckily I've refinanced out of dealer financing in the past so I knew how to do it and how easy it is with my credit. This can be effective to make them think they are making a little money so they don't do any voodoo math to fool you somewhere else.

Dealers make the majority of their profit on financing and selling service plans/extended warranties. The profit margin on the vehicle is slim, although not as slim as the try to make you believe in some cases.
