    Getting there...
Just do lube/fluids yourself if you can. Good way to relax if you ask me. And you'll guarantee it's done right/to your satisfaction. I try to do my own maintenance that way I know if something goes wrong, there's nobody to blame but myself. Oil, driveshaft zerks are often ignored, and diff fluid. Bought mine CPO from a Toyota dealer w/about 40k on the clock. Checked the fluid recently at 45k and it had obviously never been changed. Fluid was gross and there were plenty of metal shavings on the plug from break in.

I highly doubt your door sticker says 46 psi... That's way high, no stock tire on a Tacoma is even rated for that psi.

I didn't imply that it was a written requirement. Only common sense, If you spend many of your hard earned dollars on a truck you should look after it.

Well going in for my 10,000 mi. today. I think I'll try and mark a few things before I go.

That's fine and all, but the owner would have a hard time proving things in court. Read again what the service says - that is ALL they are required to do...

I looked again at the manuals and the Toyota Care brochure and you have to read both at the same time to realize they don't literally take care of your "scheduled maintenance"...they take care of your first 5 recommended oil changes.

The owner's manual lists procedures that are for "extreme conditions" (e.g. driving in sand, towing, mountainous terrain, all the stuff we bought Tacomas to do...) and Toyota Care states that it does not cover maintenance recommended for "extreme conditions".

So, with that said I'm trying to learn how to actually do the inspections and lubrications listed under the "extreme conditions" in the book, myself. Oh, this also includes engine/cabin air filters...those don't get changed.

I talked to a service rep at the dealership and they said that these things are inspected and done, but nothing I've read holds them to that.

"Inspected" being the operative word. Do they actually inspect it? No one knows unless you are out there watching them. It would be a safe bet that they try to sell new filters by just saying they are dirty.

For example, I was having some warranty work done on mine and was sitting in the lobby next to a woman who was a senior citizen. The service guy comes in and brings "her" filter and says it was dirty and needed replacing. Sitting next to her, I also see it - and it was as clean as a whistle. She asked how much and he gave her the usual ridiculous, over-priced amount...and then she says "well, let me call my husband." The service guys leaves for a bit and I tell her that the filter he showed her didn't need replacing (as did another customer, who got angry by the way). The service guy comes back and she says "no thanks," which leaves the guy saying "but, but..."

We got a laugh out of it, except for the guy who got angry and started going off about the service department cheating people. I wish I could have recorded that one...

In a nutshell as I posted earlier:

Also on the "Multipoint Inspection", they inspect it and if they find something ( dirty filter etc... ) they inform the customer and ask if they want it replaced, you will have to pay for it however.

Yeah, I feel ya guys... I took mine to the dealership for it's 15k service. Did my next oil change myself to replace the oil filter cartridge to the Camry metal one and found out that they had not put on the drain plug washer gasket. Total Rookie move. I'm doing my lube and oil changes from now on. Screw the dealership, they just want your money and don't care about your business.
