Get the K&N cabin air filter for $60 ish and never pay again. Clean it, spray it down and put it back in.

I would probably just do the dealer closest unless you find consistent reviews complaining about something serious or you have a poor experience. Maybe mark up your tires before a rotation to make sure they are doing it correctly/at all.

    None yet

I used to go to Bill Kidd's for service but I had several shitty experiences there and I won't go back. I bought my Taco in Westminster but get my ToyotaCare crap done @ Jones in Belair. After ToyotaCare I'm going to my buddies Precision Tune.

I marked the sidewall of my tires with chalk to make sure they rotate them and when i got the truck back all the chalk was gone.

Oh man I'm gonna have to do some serious planning to see how many Autozone points I can rack up and then catch that rebate. "Luckily" owning a Jeep as well means that I'm in AZ quite a lot. I think I could maybe end up getting 2-3 5qt's for free at the end of the day or damn close.

I wiped the dust right in the middle of my wheels to check if/how they rotate my tires. They rotated them, and I'm fairly certain the manual says to rotate them straight front/back which they did but fuck that I want them crossed.

The one I take mine to doesn’t try to sell me other crap. It’s weird. At the 30k they didn’t try to sell me any air filters. Or say it wasn’t in alignment. It was weird. Going for my last free one on Friday (35k). We’ll see what they say

What type of tires do you have? direction or non directional

Radial tires are directional. The rotation pattern should be front to rear with no cross side to side.

Believe it or not, this shit does work. My sister recently dropped $900 for maintenance on their Saturn all because the tech said so. New plugs, new filters, flush all the things, new battery, oh, and the cables look a little corroded, lets go ahead and replace those too.

One dot of latex paint in the corner of one of the embossed letters on the tires will do the trick. Barely noticeable (use a dark color) won't 'wipe' off, but you can easily remove after you are home.

Nitto Ridge Grapplers, not a directional pattern. And I've always rotated my tires crossing rears to front and this is the first time that I've ever heard radials are directional. I'm not trying to say you're wrong but it doesn't make sense given you can mount either side of the tires out, and considering the fact that radial plies are arranged perpendicular to the rotation of the tire whereas bias ply tires the plies create a V.

    Some performance models are.

    Most are not.

All directional tires will have the rotation direction indicated on the outside tire sidewall.

My Hankook Dynapro ATM rotation is front to back.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but that first link you posted distinctly shows tires crossing in all cases except directional tires (which I'm not arguing, directional front to back only) but in most cases directional tires are dictated by tread pattern, and your ATM's are not directional.

    No shit, right?
When I bought my Taco, two months ago, the high-pressure guy who was trying to sell me every warranty under the sun, got real-close-and-personal and said 'You really NEED the warranty on the computer systems and key fobs' (An extra $3K+ to the purchase price) .. And I gave him the dagger-look and said 'I'm buying a Toyota, because of their top-notch quality record. Are you trying to tell me that Toyota isn't all it's SUPPOSED to be? I haven't signed anything yet, y'know..' He had no answer. In fact he started to back-peddle a bit. Then, the 'extras' became 'suggested' rather than a 'You REALLY NEED this!' kinda' thing. Amazing.
Thanks for the HEADS UP though. I know what I'll be in for for my first dealer service (1.9K miles right now..)
You're right though ... Just give me what I paid for, nothing more-nothing less. It will be interesting to see if they tell me I need a new alignment, even though my truck has been nothing but a Pavement Princess.

I paid $2.46/quart for 56 of those red Rotella synthetic oil quarts you see in the background. Was $9.95/quart. Those nine are sitting there staged for the 10K oil change and tire rotate and other 10K DEALER SERVICE crap they want you to bring it in for, but that a man with a brain can do easily. IF he has a shop lift. Still can do, albeit with a little more work, even if he doesn't. Been there. Done that. That's why I have the shop lift now. ;) I'm 64. I've been in to a dealer only twice in my lifetime: to have them replace the head gaskets on my '93 4Runner. Toyota's dime. Somehow I have survived without their help. I think I can take it from here Spud...

That's what scares me the most. Some 18 year-old tire-monkey who completely failed at working at McDonald's, with a 1/2" impact gun turned up to 130 psi. I got stuck in the middle of nowhere once because of that..
