Just left Toyota on a 2015 TRD/ OR, Entune Prem, Tow Pkg, Auto, Nav. Etc... After 5 hrs of haggling got the deal from an MSRP of $35,470 down to $33,500 + Lic & Tax. This is a legit $150 over invoice, this guy would not budge any further on this price, even if I was the store owner.

I don't know how you guys are getting fully loaded TRD-OR's with Entune Prem, Tow, Auto and Nav for $30K, 31K or $32K, let alone OTD. He was clear that every dealer across the nation pays the same for these trucks, and no dealer is going to lose less money than they paid for on a Tacoma.

Anyway I walked over the stupid trade-in offer of $20K for my PreRunner with only 8,800 miles on it, which I paid $24,750 for six months ago. As we walked out, they went up to $22K but I was already pissed off at this point.

The truck was Blue Ribbon, which I actually liked, but my wife hated. She wanted me to hold out for a wife, if I was going to lose this much on my trade.

Take your truck to Carmax and see how much they will give you for it.

You get the best price for your truck if you sell private. It's more leg work but it's worth it in the end. I've sold my last 3 vehicles private and made way more than I would have if I traded.

The trade in value was lower than a rough trade in assuming no damage to the truck. I'd wait until the 26th of the month, go there later in the day, walk out of the dealership and return on the 30th for a final offer.

Maybe not the deal of the century but really not to bad. If the wife can live with the color, I would call back the dealer. All I'm being offered is 2 grand off list for a '14. Dealer wanted to give me 17G for my '11 Access Sport. That was not going to happen.

it takes leaving and not being satisfied to get the deals you see, some people have more experience than others. Also finding a dealer who needs the sales, like stated before, the end of the month quota needs to be met

Negotiate a price as if it were a cash offer only without actually saying anything. Then and only then once you have a price you can accept do you then negotiate the trade in. Anything else, they have you hooked and it will never be in your favor.

Sorry but 5 hrs to get to a price is a waste of time. an hour or less or just move on. Buying a car is a waste of time if it takes a day to complete the price and paperwork.

You did good. Don't pay more than MSRP for the truck, and sell your truck private party or see what Car max would do.

On my tundra, the dealer offered me 24,000 for it as a trade in. Carmax already offered me 25,200 the day before. I told the dealer and the dealer told me to take it to Carmax then come back with the money.

I told them I would just go to a toyota dealer closer to the carmax, instead of coming back, and they changed their tune, offered to match the 25,200.

    BUT BUT BUT

They didn't really offer me the extra 1,200. What they did was applied the sales tax credit (you pay less sales tax on a new vehicle if you trade in a vehicle) towards the price of the truck, making it look like they were giving me more money.

I didn't catch it until I went home and looked through the paperwork. Nobodies fault but my own and you can bet I'll NEVER ANNOUNCE how im paying for my next vehicle until AFTER the price is negotiated.

Pay what you're happy paying and forget about all the crap you find online. If the dealer gave you the new truck, paid you $500 and let you keep your old truck, you'd come on here and find someone telling you that you got screwed and that they got that same deal on theirs but the dealership gave them $600. Getting pissed about buying something based on a deal someone told you they got from a forum just taints the whole process.

So, invoice less 3% hold back (2% on the truck purchase and 1% on finance). 3% of invoice is around $1k on the truck you're looking at.... Every dealer I've either worked at (selling) or puchased from would dip into the hold back.

    lol...I'm so tight, I DON'T squeak when I walk.

You have to remember the prices that you see on here are from different parts of the country. Where you live actually does make a difference depending on the market in that area. Not to mention tons of other variables.
