I have the stock 15in wheels on my Tacoma but I am thinking about getting the newer 01-04 16in wheels. Is there any downside to this? It looks like tires for the the larger rim are more expensive even though there is less rubber. Any other negative effects?

I think cost of rubber is about it, especially if you are sticking with Toyota wheels.

Anyone know why the tires for the 16in wheels cost more than tires for 15in wheels?

Deck plate mod, intake silencer removed, AFE Pro Dry S Air Filter, debadged! Firestone Destination A/T's, 31X10.50X15's. Dynomax super turbo muffler!
so the tire company's can make more money. since they (car company's) no longer use 15's anymore!

This never made sense to me either. With a bigger hole in the middle, they use less rubber, so shouldn't the tires be cheaper? Nope, it's all about demand. Everyone wants bigger wheels so everyone's gonna need tires to fit those wheels. Isn't capitalism great?!

It makes sense that 16's cost more, they have to redesign a new tire with a stronger side wall for less sidewall flex, so maybe the rubber goes in the walls?
