first time Toyota owner. Bought the posted vehicle. When researching the SR5 TRD I was under the impression that all TRD'S came with a locking diff. This one didn't which is no big deal because I use my old M38A1 jeep for wheeling.

So am I the only owner of a TRD without a locker?

Only the Trd off-road/Pro's/Baja came with a locking diff from the factory.

Is yours a Sport? Does it have a hood scoop? Sports don't come with a locking diff

Sorry, I failed to include TRD-OFF ROAD. Just for curiosity sake I hope to be able to get a build or window sticker from my local Toyota dealer. If unable to get a sticker what items should I look for to determine if this truck does have the TRD - OFF ROAD package?

Do you have the 110V outlet in the bed?

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
The biggest would be the rear locker. You can probably have the dealer run the VIN to determine what it really is. Different shocks, such as Bilsteins too vs the Hitachi in the Sports, they are usually yellow with blue tubes.

A normal, non scooped hood + locker is usually an off road.

I'm suspecting someone threw a decal on it. It does have the chrome SR5 emblem on the tailgate, does have a skid plate, and the shocks are black w/a thin yellow stripe near the bottom of the tube. No 110v connection. Does have the factory receiver hitch and a cooler ( haven't traced it out to see if it is for the transmission, engine oil, or hydraulic fluid ) mounted in front of the a/c condenser. No hood scoop.

FYI your VIN does not show if it came with the TRD Off Road Package.
Fastest and easiest way to tell is to see if you have the factory rear locking differential switch.

As jmd025 said alot of people put the TRD Of Road decal on the truck and pass it off as a factory TRD Off Road.
Below is a link that shows all the specs on a 2015 Tacoma. You can check the package options to see what you have. But if you dont have the outlet in your bed, then you have an SR5 and not the TRD Off Road.

Sounds like an SR5. Nothing wrong with that just hope you didn't pay TRD prices

Shwaa that's what I'm thinking. So far well pleased with the truck. I will study some info I just found on this site. I would hate to have paid for a TRD OFF ROAD tho. Probably no recourse with the toyo dealer. I'm going to do some KKB and NADA comparisons on the price I paid.

The towing package could go either way but if you have no rear locker and no power outlet in the bed it's definitely not a TRD OR. SR5's are sweet though so not the end of the world, but yea I'd be kinda irritated

If you bought it from a Toyota dealer and they listed it as a TRD-OR, and you payed the extra for it over what an SR5 would have been listed at, then yeah I'd consider that is a valid argument to be had. If the paperwork however lists it as an SR5, no TRD business, then owell.

I'm honestly out of touch with resale values between TRD versus plain SR5 packages

I checked the KBB and NADA. Did a search for a SR5. I still came out ok, just not as good as I thought I had. My paper work does not mention TRD.

The internet description of the truck did describe it as a TRD OFF ROAD w/ TRD OFF ROAD decal. It listed the rear differential locker, 110v/400 watt power supply, tuned suspension, etc. I wish I had printed off the description, we were so excited to finally find what we wanted we just took to get it.

Oh well, it is what it is. Still like the truck. But I am going to call the dealer and see what they have to say.

Did you not test drive the truck? A quick interior inspection would have shown there was not locker switch, also looking in the bed would tell you there was no 110v outlet.

My '15 OR does not have an SR5 decal on it. Like others said, if it doesn't have a locker switch or the outlet in the bed, then it's just a good'ol sr5.

Only the 05-10 trd Offroads had the sr5 badge on the tailgate

But it does sound like you got a sr5 with fake trd stickers :pout: sucks man so as long as you didn't end up paying for a trd Offroad and you're happy with the truck you'll be good

That's a bummer. Shame on the Toyota dealer. I'm especially curious if the previous owner swindled them the same and played it off as a TRD-OR lol.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Not sure how knowledgeable a lot of those sales guys are. In fact I'm betting that's the case and not the dealership deliberately misleading the buyer by adding those stickers after trade in

I did quiz the salesman where the control was for the locker. He looked on the dash and said it did not have a locker and showed me where the switch would have been located. I question why it did not have a locker because I was under the impression that all Over the Road packages had a locker. He replied that all of them did not have lockers, depended on how they were ordered. Me, being new to Toyota, believed him. My gross mistake.

But I'm not bummed out, still like the truck.
