So with just over 150 on the odometer, sitting behind cars at a red light and some guy comes up and rear ends me. Might be a TW record, right?

Anyway, felt worse than it was. But did put two holes in the underside of the black plastic bumper section, and perhaps bent the metal bumper underneath. See pic. It looks like it could be a factory bend, as I thought at first, but now thinking it was a result of the hit. Also appears to be a slight swell in the plastic step.

So, relieved as I was expecting considerably worse. Smacked me pretty decently.

Can someone tell me if theirs look like this, or if its a bend?

Am thinking of just saying screw it, everyone has a bad day and screws up, and letting it go. But damn....really?

I would most definitely not let that go. I'd get the frame inspected at the very least. There could be a small hairline fracture somewhere that could manifest into something worse later on. Also I can not see your pictures.

You wont even be paying the deductible and your truck has 150 on the odo? Why the HELL is this even a consideration?

You are an idiot if you don't claim that on insurance. He probably smacked you trying to send a dick pick to Seatbelt Mike.

Had a problem trying to upload from cell. There now. More I look, not a factory bend.

Minor, but am now wondering if I park this thing in the hot AZ sun, is the plastic going to sag without metal support under it?

I saw a car salesman back a brand new SR5 Tacoma into a highlander when he was re-positioning inventory. This was back in Sept/Oct 2015 when they were just hitting lots. Shit happens all the time.

It won't if you get the damn thing fixed properly like you should.

I would definitely turn it in to ins OR give the guy a chance to pay to fix the damage he caused. Personally I can't live with even a small ding. I would go crazy looking at that everyday. Now if it were 5 years old, it probably wouldn't bother me.

Side note, I bought a new Weekend Warrior toy hauler some years back. I hadn't towed it 50 miles and some old guy rear ended me. Minor damage but I DID get it fixed by his insurance.

I feel your pain. My 2016 got tail-ended about week 7 of ownership. Better yet, the driver that hit me had no insurance at the time. My insurance fixed it and it was about $3k. Those sensors are expensive!

Those frames fold up easy like an accordion. Best to have the frame checked.

It's been said, Have it checked. Today's frames bend if you sneez on them for "Safety's Sake".

    Don't ignore this one.

Guess that will be my "new truck jinx" out of the way on this one.

My last tacoma, new 2002 SR5 4x4 DC was stolen out of the parking garage at my then apartment with 1300 on the odometer. Couple months old. Was 3 weeks before they found it, and another 3 to get it back. Assholes took the white face gauges, 4x4 ECU, actuators, mud flaps, and I forget what else. Dented the hood, so that had to be fixed and painted. Some jerknozzle trying to convert a pre-runner into a 4x4 I was guessing.

Why is he stupid if he doesn't claim it? In my OPINION it's stupid if he does. If he claims it his truck will have an accident on its record... and this is so minimal. Is it really worth it? Just "replace" it with a nice off road bumper or get a used one from someone who already did.

He's stupid for not claiming it because there are so many unforeseeable issues that could pop up because of this. He admitted that this guy hit him harder than the damage suggests which means there is probably more damage than he is aware of. In the same breath that he's saying "should I just forget it!?" hes asking if we think "the bumper is going to sag in the heat".

It's absolutely ridiculous that this is even a discussion point. The guy rear ended op. He'll pay the deductible, op'll get it fixed, and it will be guaranteed for life or you insurance will fix it again. If you are worried about the hit on re-sale because of an "accident on your record" you could press the insurance company for "diminished value" which, in this particular case, would be VERY easy to determine--since he just bought it for X price. Most people can't legitimately claim that, because they haven't had their truck appraised recently. BUT OP just bought it so there is a clear indicator of its value. This is a no-brainer, but op seems be missing that vital organ, so maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Op, I'm being a jerk, because you are being ridiculous. Don't be "too nice" that you get walked all over. This guy rear-ended you and its great to let bygones be bygones, but you are setting yourself up for a world of hurt if you just let this go to be nice. He has insurance; you have insurance. That's what its for. Use it. You were nice enough already to not have gotten the police involved with an accident that would have surely ended in a ticket for him.

@tacoflavoredkisses1 what is a bygone? And I guess I'm just more laid back than most. I just stated what I'd do as a different opinion. But I guess my opinion is wrong. The OP could take it to a auto body shop for a professional opinion on his truck. And not f**k around on here and get called stupid...
