Some have said it helps and then some said it doesn’t. I’m going to take mine off sometime and see what happens.

It's a truck. Did anyone buy their truck because they were promised great gas mileage?
Did the manufacturer not post the mileage on the window sticker?

Did I mention it's a truck? I'd rather read a thread about what people haul in their truck.
After all, did I mention we bought a truck?

My TRUCK gets decent mileage, a ton of variables. 6spd manual , the sweet spot is 68 mph@2350 rpm, 21 mpg, AT tires.

First of all, I find that hard to believe. That stretch isn't all that easy to sustain an average that high.

Average means some more, some less.

The time spent in 'more' lowers more than the time in 'less' improves for the proportionate amount. IE 85 for an hour uses more than 75 for an hour will compensate for.

Maybe he was using "countermeasures" ;) The current Cannonball Run record color-coded speed map (28 hours and 50 min):

Truth. It's why for a long time I had 3. All used. Sports car, nice CUV for people and trips, small truck for small truck stuff. And I owned operated them for less than the cost of one new vehicle.

Yep. Me too. Even my poor man's 5 lug is likeable. Since it meets my needs.

Now you've gone too far. :p There's not enough anti nausea medicine made to get me through 10 hours of that.

Unless you tell me it counts if I sleep while it's on. :fingerscrossed:

I thought this was going to be a happy thread. I’d be happy with 17.3mpg
Nope. Just another “my truck gets shitty mileage” thread. :D

This thread is hilarious. I can average 16.5 to 19 mpg on my 370 mile trip between work and home. Most of it is on I 10 in west Texas. When I am I. A hurry and drive over 80 (81-85)it’s 16.5. If I am in not hurry and drive 70 I get 19. If I take back roads and get off the interstate it’s back over 20. Speed kills gas mileage.
Wind load is not linear. It takes more power to overcome it with more speed and that takes more fuel.
If you want something that gets great mileage on the 8 terstste try a BMW 328 or similar sedan.my 2012 328i would getm36 mpg at 85 mph.

Folks complaining about gas mileage going down at interstate speeds with a off-road truck

This was from a trip I took a few months ago when I had a Taco. If you guys aren’t getting good gas mileage, it’s because you’re not driving it correctly.

Yes, this was all interstate across the hilly I-10 in Florida, average 75mph.

The one thing we can control here is our speed. https://researchmaniacs.com/Calcula...oes-it-take-to-drive-370-miles-at-60-mph.html
Do the math here to see how much time you actually save.
    For example I have a 245 mile run down I 10 if I go 80 it takes 3hours 3 minutes and 45 seconds
    If I go 70 it takesm3 hours 30 minutes
How much is 26 seconds worth
    80 mph=16.5 mpg for 245 miles = 14.85 gallons
    70 mph =19.3mpg for 245 miles=12.7 gallons
So is that 26 minutes worth about 2 gallons or 4 bucks? Are you going to stop and get a burger anyway? You can double the distance and it is still only 8 bucks for almost an hour if you don’t take long breaks.

There is the safety factor as well. Driving slower is less fatiguing than driving faster. And you have more time to avoid incidents, animals , potholes etc.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t cost much to go faster, but there is a cost.

I don't know why some people would never drive 1,500 miles? That's the only way to see your country. Notn from 35,000 feet. But from driving it.
I love long distance drIves. Hell l love even short drives.

We do it all the time. We drove 1,500 miles to Moab last October. I just personally prefer traveling that far in my car.

Never said I wouldn't, so maybe you're quoting the wrong post?

    But a Tacoma wouldn't be my #1 choice for a drive-about.

This. My wife and I dread driving this thing on the highway.

Over the mountain passes to Eastern Washington? Get ready to listen to the truck scream along at 5K RPM up the mountain to keep up with traffic......its really relaxing. Strong head wind? down shift, down shift, down shift, down shift, down shift, down shift, all. fucking. day. long.

Yes our truck has the latest software update and yes it still has an engine better suited for a car. If I wanted all my power at the top of the RPM range I would have got an S2000. Before anyone tells me I should have driven it longer or whatever this is my wifes vehicle. She REALLY wanted this truck and still loves it despite its shortcomings. I want to sell it LOL
