Back in March of 15' I ordered a Tacoma. The dealership got my order wrong and treated me like crap. So I went to Ford. Bought a 2016 F150 2.7l, crew cab XLT Sport FX4.

So, now a week ago some A-hole tried turning left across my lane and pretty much T-boned me. Insurance totalled my Ford. However the payoff they gave me was a joke! Which I am trying to dispute with them, it is barely enough to cover the cost remaining on the loan! The thing depreciated that much! it only had 9500 miles on it.

I liked it, but didnt love it, plus the depreciation is insane. So, long story short I am looking at Tacomas again. However here are a few questions I have an opinions are wanted!

-should I get a used 2016 fully loaded with JBL, heated seats, all that with under 6k miles for $3350 (TRD DC SPORT 4x4)
-A 2016 TRD OR DC 4x4 with Premium package 2k miles, for $30k, Kicker is it was a lemon law buyback from Toyota. Comes with full toyota warranty though. However Title is branded as buy back. Is this a good idea or just stay away? its about 5k under value.
-Or just get a new 2017 OR or Sport 4x4 DC for about $3400 (which is my max budget)
-To throw out another idea, I can get a 2016 Silverado Z71 extended 5.3l with 1,400miles for $31k.

Thank you and let me know! I am staying away from Ford because of the depreciation and the fact I didnt really love the truck.

I'd never consider buying a former lemon, especially for a minimal discount in price. Talk about depreciation, wait until YOU try to sell a prior lemon and with multiple owners.

If you want a full size the new GMs are nice trucks, if you don't then I guess you're looking at a Tacoma, which is also a nice truck.

That Chevy will depreciate just like the ford. The curse of domestics.

    Go for the new offroad.
I second that the lemon law taco would be a bad choice.

Just about anything you buy is going to deprecate the most during the first year or so, I would avoid the lemon at all costs and look at something new.

I agree with Jessica, the Chevy will depreciate as bad as a Ford. Go with a Double cab 4x4 and don't look back.

I won't lie to you, if the payout from my insurance was enough to get me close I'd seriously consider the Chevy out of the options you presented.

Thanks Guys! appriciate the opinions. Should I go look at a new 2017 TRD or look into the 2016 that is loaded for $34k (could prob get down to ($33k) it has 5k miles on it. I cant afford to get the premium the new 2017, I do value heated seats and parking censors. Just dont know if its worth to be a year behind. IT is also the Sport, I kinda want the OR.

I doubt there's more than $2k between a used 2016 and a new 2017, and it doesn't sound like you're paying cash. So.. $30 a month is the difference.

go for the offroad without all the fancy add ons and put them in yourself. It will save you a lot of money that way. I just put a new sound system in my '16 and it cost be a whopping $200 and sounds 10x better.

I have no idea how much value you lost but like I mentioned already, just about anything you buy is going to depreciate the most during the first year or so. There was a guy posting here in the last few days trying to get rid of his Tacoma with less than 4,000 miles and it went down about $7000 in value in that tiny amount of time

I'd go buy a new Silverado, try to find a brand new 2016....should be able to get about 20% of MSRP today pretty easy. More bang for buck and helluva a nice truck.

Chances are this truck with 5000 miles on it was probably traded due to issues with it also. I agree that Ford resale value is horrible but how many problems did you have with your Ford in those 9500 miles you had it? In the 6200 miles or so I had my 3rd gen, I had a total of 9 visits to the dealership for issues and new issues when I traded it. What's more important? Resale value or avoiding constant service dept visits?

-The cheap 16 OR with was lemoned for the audio system and work wasnt performed in a certain timeline, it was fixed, then sold with factory warrenty.

-I dont care about audio of the premium JBL, I care about the options it gives you. The TRD Sort for $34k has the Premium JBL package with sunroof, heated seats, parking censors, ect.

    - I cant afford that package if I get the 2017, But I can get the 2017 OR in the color I want for the same price and maybe even $500 cheaper. But like I said I do value those options

-I like the Silverado, but I am scared, just like the Ford, it will go down big time, where the Taco wont

Driving a certain vehicle because your just concerned about depreciation is stupid. What are you using it for and can you afford it? Those should better help you determine what's better for YOU

Never had a single problem with it to be honest. Thought I wanted the Crew cab room, turns out it was too much, the trucks cab noise was a pain, but your in a truck. It just felt cheap IMHO. For a truck that expensive it just felt very cheap, prob my biggest issue.

My big thing is longevity. I will keep this truck until its paid off and many years after. What was wrong with yours? I hear mixed things. most people love their Taco's while others hate it. so, you never know.

Maybe you should offer to buy the third gen of @smitty99 then he can get a Silverado and I won't have to always second guess my third gen purchase when I see his posts. In all seriousness I don't think you can go wrong with the non lemoned 16 or the new 17. Personally, I'd go with the new 17 and never look back. Nothing will hold its value like a Tacoma and it scares me that someone dumped their truck at 6k miles.
