Jeep Wranglers hold their value even better than Tacomas.... that doesn't mean it is the right vehicle decision. Just pointing out that logic doesn't follow, resale trends are largely unimportant in purchasing a vehicle to keep long term.

I agree depreciation factor should be low on the list. A truck is a toy/tool not an investment. Get what you want and can afford. Then drive and enjoy!

Seriously, bro you're like a troll that owns a Tacoma...where do you come from on your suggestion??

Wait... gen 1 taco owner obviously happy with purchase since you still own it and now after at least 15 years of ownership you suggest a Chevy.:facepalm:to someone that really wants to get one or he wouldn't be back here asking??

Maybe yer just funnin.....I hope so.

Hey OP... just get the new 17 OR... I bought my 16 for less that what they are offering on the used ones.

If you get the sport & wanted an OR you will end up regretting your purchase. I'd say go with the new 17'.

I had 9 visits but not 9 issues. I had the driveline shudder/vibration while braking. Had the leaf spring/steering damper TSB done long before it was a TSB. Never actually fixed the issue, just made it a bit less noticeable. I had the shift flare 2-3 or 3-4, never knew for sure which it was. Traded before the revised TSB so not sure if that would have fixed it or not. I had the screaming fuel pump that they did not want to do anything about. Said it was normal for a HPFP. I have had an ecoboost with a HPFP with no chirp nor does my wife's Tahoe's HPFP make a chirp. I had a wobbly pulley on the engine that the regional tech said to replace but when I brought it back in to have it done he told them not to. About a week before trading it in, it stalled as I was parking at work. I threw it in park, sat there a minute or two, then restarted it and pulled into the spot the rest of the way and parked and then had to hurry into work. It did not do this again but it gave me a weird shudder/bucking a couple of times cruising home around 40mph. Not sure if that was the engine or the transmission doing something funny. It never threw any codes or warning lights during these occurances. I just plain and simply could not stand the lethargic feeling of the power train during normal everyday driving. I also had the clink/clunk noise when coming to a stop.

Fair enough in regards to wrangler resale. Even if you plan to keep something a long time it is nice to have good resale value. I think his situation is a perfect example. His car was totaled at no fault of his own and he is out a bunch of money because of depreciation. I was lucky when I totaled my car that was 10 years old and had 160,000 miles it held its value well and allowed me to get my shiny new Tacoma. Resale isn't everything and he should get the truck he wants but it's unfair to say resale doesn't matter at all... Or at least it matters to me. Just my opinion.

No trollin here, I usually make it plenty clear when I'm purposely being an ass. I've had Chevies and really enjoy them, next vehicle will likely be one. I like the Tacos as a simple daily driver or as an offroad toy but would never pay what they command for a new one. Third gen didn't impress me at all when I got to drive it so I gave my honest opinion. If he had suggested a 2nd gen or even an old ass 1st gen I would have made and argument for them. I'm not just here to be a mindless fanboy though. Also he suggested the Chevy in his original post! I just said I'd consider it. The third gen section surprises me sometimes haha

Ugh...did you read OP's first post which specifically asked about a Chevy? Speedytech's response actually demonstrates that he is not biased.

Everyone is so quick to call "troll" that the word is losing its meaning. Speedytech is anything BUT a troll on TW.

OMG.... so we are basing suggestions to someone really wanting a Tacoma after passing first time, buys a Ford.. now we say Get the Chevy....

Again based on what a test drive really..... I'm not being a fanboy, I'm just calling a bro a bro bro... That suggestion is just silly...and based on one person's test drive.... MY opinion is fanboy because I owned and gen 3 Taco for 16 months so I'm now a fanboy... .says the guy with a gen1 that test drove a 3rd gen and suggests a Chevy.... wow.

OK suggestion for Non-fanboy: get back on your kittie kat you rode in here on and don't let the door hit you in the head on the way out! Just sayin.... problem solved... thank u very much.

lol, didnt mean to start a fight. Not trying to start the whole which brand is better thing. Lets face it. Every brand has its problems. Some people experience them, some dont.

-To me I would like the new 2017, but i simply cant afford the options I really want to add on. I do want the OR instead of the Sport though. So that is something to consider, the Blue Sport isnt my first color choice, but it is top 3, so no biggy there. It does have everything I want though, just not the OR package.

    - So basically the trade off would be getting a new 2017 in color and model I want, but none of the comfort add ons I want.

-I asked about the Siverado because that is an insanely good price for a new 2016 Z71, dealer demo end of year closeout price. My dad has a 2014 Sierra, and I do like it, however, he has had some electrical issues. But still love his truck. the chevy would have everything with it accept monroof and parking sensors. BUT it is 4hrs away, lol. Taco is 4 miles down the road....

-Also, depreciation is a big factor, I need a truck because I just got into house flipping this year, also own a boat, go hunting, and do like to go off road every now and then, but mainly its an everyday city/highway truck. So, most trucks do that job fine, full size vs mid, doesnt really matter. I just lost my ass on the F150 because of the depression, so ya it does matter and is a big factor. To me at least.
