Same one I bought and installed...
Came with the correct length neck; no need to swap from the stock.

One misthread of the filter housing while changing your oil, kiss your money goodbye.

Plastics have gone a long way. Our intake manifold is all plastic. The bed of our trucks are plastic.

I highly doubt the aluminum one is that much stronger than the plastic, if at all.

Do you need to know, or care?
You're right. I forgot these have the cartridge type. Still wouldn't replace it though, but to each their own.

I almost bought one, then I remembered that I built up an aluminium tank that specified aluminum fittings. The fittings galled in the tank due to a minor thread defect, threads were toast. New tank with zinc plated steel fittings the 2nd go around.

Should've gone with the 2.7L, and you wouldn't have to spend the extra $20...

Why did Toyota put non-serviceable u-joints in a 4X4? Same reason, I assume.

If you can turn it on with your hands to start, shouldn't be a big chance of cross threading.. I have had no issues, just take your time and install it..

    Reserected from the dead.
I don't see how you could cross thread ether the aluminum or the plastic version. The treads are so course, it would be noticeable right away.

After I bought this Aluminum filter cap, and the Fumoto oil drain valve, and gave it to my service advisor to replace them instead of the stock one for my 10K service, they refused to do it. I was genuinely surprised. I told them the oil filter cap is an Original Toyota cap, and not after market. I said the Aluminum doesn't wear out like the plastic ones. And that the drain valve is only to make your life easier, and not difficult, and he just didn't care, their answer was a stubborn No. I told them, F this, and I left the dealership and changed my oil myself.

coming from VW, where a lot of their filter housings are plastic....Just don't be a knob and tighten the shit out of these and you'll never have a problem. Torque specs and special tools are there for a reason
