If you ever plan on doing a brake upgrade then you'll be glad you have 17"s. More 37" tire choices too. If you don't ever plan to do either of those, 16's are fine.

Even they say the bigger the wheel, the harsher the ride...

    From the first article:
"And remember, unless you believe it is better to look good than to feel good, take our advice and stay away from extremely low-profile sidewalls"

I've only had 17's on my truck, but unless you go with highway tires I don't think you are going to feel the difference in performance. In theory though for a given tire height , the 17's are going to perform better on the highway because of less sidewall flex.
You can test it too. Push on a car with low profile tires compared to high profile tires and you can see the how much the car moves away from you.

That said, if you want to compare the look, the first pictures on the SCS thread are all 17's.
Here is a member that has the Ray10's with 16's. It's subtle.

When I say perform better, I mean that they will handle better when under stress. Faster turns, race car race car. etc.
Fatter tires do provide more cushion and offroad traction at the expense of onroad performance.

So unless OP is whipping his truck around corners, theoretically the 16s are a better choice. Realistically though you will not notice a difference in performance. Just go with what is more aesthetically pleasing to you!

There are more tire options in the 17" range. For instance, Nitto ridge grappler does not come in 16" wheel size. If you have 2 tires that are the same height, one with a 16" and one with a 17" wheel the the 16" wheel will be more comfortable but the 17" wheel will handle better as there is less sidewall to flex under cornering.

No one here is rocking low profile tires. In that first article, they noted both the 17 and 18 sort of offered the best of both worlds.

If your going purely for aesthetics I'd go 17 with Rays. They always look smaller than they actually are in my opinion.

The set of wheels I bought for my last car was some ray knock offs and wish I had gone 17. The 16s looked like 15s once mounted. :annoyed:
