16 SR Rear Bumper. Uhaul Hitch. ARGHh.

Is there any rear steel Bumper that can be installed on a 16 Tacoma SR with UHAUL Hitch ?

Having a heck of a time finding ANYTHING.

(No OEM hitch on truck). (To Put on OEM hitch will be COSTLY I am told)

Heck, I would have just given my OEM hitch to you when I swapped to a high clearance rear bumper. Maybe see if someone locally is doing the same and you can get it for free, beer, or a little $$.

 

Dont know what to do at this point. stock bumpers off my truck again, and its such a flimsy POS I'm not even motivated to put it back on again for what will be the 3rd time now.

Inquiries sent out to 2 bumper stores, no answers yet on any bumpers that will work for me.

Last weekend I Looked into cutting/ fabbing to make the hooke offroad bumper i have now work, and that will even be very involved/extensive.

I just find it hard to believe there is nothing out there available that would work with my uhaul hitch.

x2 local dealerships told me $800 plus for an oem hitch package/hardware to put on my truck because it did not come with tow package from the factory.

 

Do you need to use the hitch soon? Maybe take the Uhaul off and put the bumper on. Keep an eye out for a used stock one?

 

You currently have an OEM bumper and a U-Haul hitch? Your post is a little confusing.

And you want an after market steel bumper that will work with the existing U-Haul hitch?

My suggestion is remove the hitch, and then buy any aftermarket steel bumper for any trim 3rd gen Taco, because they all will fit. The frame is the same between all models. Many of those aftermarket bumpers have integrated hitches.

 

I was lucky and scored an OEM receiver for $25. Still need a few of the ancillary parts but it's definitely not going to be $800. Keep an eye out for take offs.

 

I cant. The bumper bolts up to the bolt points on the hitch. Would not be able to mount it with the uhaul hitch off.

 

Sorry for the confusion. I bought a Hooke Road Steel rear bumper, currently have it at home. Have a UHAUL hitch on the truck. The bumper will not work.

Been looking at the integrated hitch bumpers... Have not yet confirmed that one would work for my truck. Its a good idea though.

 

I'd remove the uHaul hitch and fine one that works versus trying to find a new bumper. Shipping it back probably cost an arm.

 

Yeah, I would just keep an eye out for someone getting rid of stock parts after a bumper switch. Anyone with an integrated receiver on their bumper will want to get rid of the OEM receiver cause it's a heavy sucker. I had to throw mine away because no one wanted it. You could sell the uhaul receiver after and make some money back too.

 

Some rear steel bumpers have hitches included in them.

 

If you're in WA you can have my oem hitch for free.

 

How do they mount exactly though and question is would it work on my 16 sr utility after I take off the uhaul hitch.

 

I know you've got a 3rd gen. But something like this should be available for 3rd gen.

They don’t mount. They are integrated into the bumper behind the license plate. This improves departure angle significantly because there is no receiver hanging down ~4”.

 

Would a high clearance bumper work in my situation?

 

Gonna research them more and see if one would work for me.. this is all good discussion.

 

Hah, probably wouldn't be worth shipping, it's super heavy. Like others have said, you might look into an aftermarket bumper that has an integrated hitch.

My hitch is hidden with a flip up license plate bracket.
