I'm looking at trading my 16 Tacoma TRD Sport. 2wd, auto, premium & technology pkg. {non JBL}, tow pkg, tonneau cover, 22,000 mi, one owner, all services done by Toyota Dealer. They offered $25,000, towards a 19 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4×4,MSRP $41138, OTD for $39,000. KBB shows trade in up to $27500. I think my 16 is worth more. I'd consider splitting the difference. My 16 is in good condition, I'm not saying excellent but at least good, maybe very good. No body damage, considering the mileage, one Owner, all required maintenance done by a Toyota Dealer. Opi9 please. Thanks, Tom

One owner and maintenance only benefits in private sales. Trade in is how much the dealer can make from the truck, and they need as much margin as they can get.

I got a stinker value for my trade in on my 16 and went privately.

I only suggest trade in for simplicity, or if the truck is secretly in poor condition. Otherwise unload it yourself and use the money you saved for bigger tires on the new truck.

Also if you wait for the 2020's to come out the incentives for the 19's will be better and more room to negotiate.

With 22k she’s barely broken in! Do you have the title or a loan on the truck?

It's 3 years old and 2WD. I think the price is fair

2WD is a death blow for resell for trucks in my area.

What's taxs in your state ? If it's 6% then you are saving another $1500 and it's like they are giving you $26,500 kinda .

not bad for that 2wd truck. but you could get more private, but not much. so it might not be worth the trouble

A 4x4 truck garners more resell value than a 4x2 because it costs $3k-$4k more upfront.

They are always negotiable. Couldn't hurt to try and squeeze a few more dollars out of the Dealership. If they won't go higher on yours, or lower on theirs, then hit them up with a lot of free options thrown in.

I did just that, and I got the following freebies thrown in to close the deal.

    - Pro Grill
    - Winter Tire/rims
    - Soft top tri-fold tonneau cover
    - Tub mats

I also saved 4K off the price of my '17, since the '18's were coming in.

They don't depreciate the same, short of living in a dry climate 2WD have pretty crap resell in states with a lot of winter weather

Dealers like to low ball trade-ins value to increase profitability. I think you may be able to negotiate up to about $26,000-$26,500, but not much more unless the dealer is desperate to move a new unit and is confident it can sell your 2016 at or above market in your area. Regardless, I hope you get a good deal based on your perspective and walk away happy with a new Tacoma!

I agree that it’s relative to one’s area. I live in a coastal plains region. The land is flat for miles. It snows 1-2 times per year. Two wheel drive trucks are all over the place. I’ve owned three Tacomas and a Chevrolet S-10, none of which have been four wheel drive.

Side note, I recently attended a truck/tractor pull and there were more two wheel drive trucks pulling that four wheel drive trucks, if I remember correctly. Skinny tires up front and big tires out back.

I went to trade my 18 TRD off-road 4x4 and the highest trade in value I could get was 27k. I think your offer is good for a 2wd

If I were to trade my 17 in right now I would probably only get about 28k. That’s a OR 4x4. I would jump all over your offer.

Just do it. IF that's what you want, don't think about it. Or think of it as you getting a brand new truck for $14,000. Also the 2020 should be out soon so they might even lower the prices on the 19's.
