Thinking about getting some bigger tires on my truck. I've got a stock 3rd gen TRD off-road and I'm wondering how big I can go without it them rubbing anywhere. Any advice?

Unless there was a change from 2nd Gen Off Roads, the truck comes with 265/70-16 tires (~31").
You can (as many of us have) up it to 265/75-16 (~32") and no lift is needed for no rub.

33's will require CMC and some minor plastic trimming if you will be doing any type of off roading. Any tire larger than 33' will require fender trimming and some hammering. I'm currently in the process of upgrading to 35's from 33's on a 2.5" lift.

People fit those 255s on stock second gens too.

It just isn't mentioned since the question is always the "biggest" tire and not the "tallest," and most ask biggest because they want a taller, wider tire.

Another note if you're shopping is that not all 255/85R16 tires are the same size. If you look here you can see the different 255/85r16 dimensions. T4RFTMFW, from what I see the ones that measure 10.2 wide look pretty close width wise to the 265. I sure wish Goodyear would offer the Duratrac in 33x10.5 for those of us who live in snow country.

It's hit or miss there are no promised fits as every truck is slightly different. Even with 255/85

Have you tried searching? I guess no, that is the number 1 asked question on here or any truck forum. Smitty has some excellent links, go through those.

Search much? I'm sure there's only 20+ threads on this. 265/75r16 and 265/70r17 also depends on wheel offset/backspacing may rub a bit in certain instances.

Make sure you put some thought into the weight and construction of the tire.

I'm struggling with finding a tire that strikes a balance between adding a ridiculous amount of unsprung weight and going up a size in tire, without having to re-gear.

265/75/16 Duratrac seems to fit the bill, but hear they are noisey.

WISH someone made a Load C, 275/75/16 that weighed in around 50lbs. It would be the perfect tire for me.

Pretty much anything is going to be noisier if it has more aggressive tread compared to the "road tread" all terrains they come with... aggressive looking tire and road noise go hand in hand. If you don't want road noise and want a solid all terrain tire look into the yokohama Geolanders. If you want a tire that will perform decent in mud snow and pavement but looks cool get Duratracs. If you want a tire that doesn't perform well in mud but looks cool get a BFG KO2

Dick Cepek Extreme Country in 285/75R16 weighs just around 55 pounds. I have them and have put almost 15k on them. Road noise is there but not much louder than a set of KO2's.
