There are advantages to both sizes, it depends on how you use your truck and what you are wanting to do with it.

I prefer the offroad ride and traction of- less wheel, more tire. That said, I'd prefer not to lift, or change (downgrade) wheels.
But as @shakerhood mentioned, it depends what you're wanting to accomplish.

Tire choice is the main reason. Many say 17s have better choice, But I’ve never had issues getting what I want in 16”. In fact I’ve personally found it harder to get what I want in 17”. (I run 17s on a different vehicle with 35s). 16s with same overall diameter will have more sidewall, making them better for off-road.
Personally I’d only go to 17s if I was running 35” diameter tire overall, but I’d also never run E rated tires on a Tacoma either, and they seem to be a favorite on this forum.

But that increase sidewall size on 16s also makes them worse on road. So take your pick, it really isn’t a big difference between the two, it’s very minor.

17’s open the door to a lot of C-Rated options in popular tires that only come E-rated in the equivalent 16” outer diameter. Wheels weigh less than tires, so the more wheel, and the less tire, the lighter the overall combo (in addition to having the choice of a lighter c-rating) for less power loss and better MPGs.

16” generally look more burly, but my 17” have never held me back or caused issues.

16's look better in the 30-31" the 17's take over from 32 on as a better looking and more choices of a tire.

I've heard more choices for 17's. I've heard some go with 16's because more tire is better for offroad and some just like the look of more tire. I went with 17's because I just liked the look of 17's and will be running 33's. I think ultimately it's up to you.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post, but what the heck...

Does anyone know why a KO2 in 265/70/16 is significantly more expensive than the 265/75/16?

    Pictures of prices below.

17" wheels offer more clearance for brake calipers. Not sure if this is an issue on Tacoma's, but if you wanted to upgrade to a bigger caliper, 16" wheels could be a limitation.

@Bertw192 hey bert yea I don’t plan on lifting or upgrading the brakes. Just going w a slightly bigger tire. Stuck on the fine Detail of the look of a 16 vs 17 ray 10.
