Please don't tell me you are throwing parts at it until you get it working.

Could just be the starter or the battery fuse.

This. I'd be looking pretty hard at finding the specific cause before just spending $1650 to do a whole lot of work that might not even fix the problem.

The price is probably about the norm though.

Why not just test the one you have? Should be able to pull it off, put 12vdc on it and see if it works. Then you know if the issue is upstream of the starter.

Did you check all the Relays and fuses in the box next to the battery? Are all the ground connections good?
What happens when you try and start the Motor?

Wayyyy to much overkill going on here. None of this makes any sense. First the complete wiring harness and now the starter??? C'mon, who you kidding???

The guy is going to spend 1000's of dollars just to find out that it is probably something simple to fix.

Ya, ok. Try changing the ignition. If that doesn't work, then the driver's side reading light.

I think what everyone is trying to explain to you is that you need a mechanic with better diagnostic skills because he is jumping to really big conclusions that do not seem plausible and he is going to cause you to waste a lot of money. Are you in TJ ? Can you tow the truck up to San Diego to get it better diagnosed ?

It sounds like he has a backyard mechanic or a friend helping him out. You can test a starter before trying to install a new one. Anyone can fix a vehicle by replacing parts until it works. The trick is to find the problem without spending a bunch of money on unnecessary parts.

We used to start our Jeep with a hammer (wooden handled) across the POS and NEG connection on the starter.. should be pretty easy ... oh and there's a shit ton of cold cranking amps so be careful.

OP did you check the fluid level in your tail lights? Sometimes that causes the issue you described originally.
