So my little dinky fan on my MAC powerbook is going off like crazy all the time. I have a temp monitor program and it's usually around 3200k or so degrees. It's causing my laptop to run EXTREMELY slow, what are you using to keep your laptop cool? I was thinking of using the little fan pad things again, but the one I had was a cheap POS and it didn't even help me really. I currently have my laptop on a small desk. I half'd a post it pad stack and tilted it some to the air could vent, but it's not working as planned. Any ideas?

lol, I never put it on my legs. Each time I hear the fan, hell it's even on right now, my web browser (Safari) tends to start to stall, and at most it just quits itself on me.

I turned it off to clean it, the temp went down to 325K and the an is @ 0 rpms

I have about 11.04g of music in my iTunes folder, but also have small mp3 files in 2 other folders, nothing large though (41/54 mb), at most and around say 1.5g of pictures, but also have several AI and PSD files, nothing large though I keep to 600x400 pixels on most of them (it's very rare I will go any higher, some files do come out to 30 mb or so though).

Ok yeah i had one before i got my macbook pro. It is a common problem with them to over heat when they get old and will eventually fry your hard drive and main board. If you computer is always stationary take the bottom casing off and put one of those cooling pads under it. You could probably try and replace the fan.

I had that problem and found out the heat sensor and one other component went bad on mine. They replaced it under Apple Care and no longer have the issue.

You might want to run it into the Genius bar and they can ran diagnostics. Mine did exactly what yours is doing.

lol, ironically that's what happened to my older mac powerbook. the mother board just died out on me, but the hdd (which was swapped out a while back, and I am still using but in a hdd case) is fine.

I was thinking about getting this one:

    http://www.outletpc.com/c2189.html

it has the fan right where my OE fan is as well as where it gets how the most:

I don't know if there is one here in Pasadena CA. The only real place that deals with MACs is a place called UniTek but they don't do anything unless the Apple Store will do anything to it, plus they charge TOO much for repairs and installs.:mad:

I think I can get something done to it though, I had the OS crash on me a while back and went to the Apple Store to have it fixed, but they didn't ask for the Apple Care, they just reinstalled a new OS into it (which I am running right now)

I have one though, a Toshiba Satelite, I don't know but I let my older brother use it for school. I have used both PC and MAC, I don't see why there should be a difference when anything to do with work revolves around both platforms, and being able to use both is one up from being a douche.

and there it is. I was waiting for someone to say that. You have bigger problems than overheating with a PC.

The temp sensor idea sounds like it is the problem.
