Was washing my 17 Taco which I bought brand new a little over a year ago and noticed the spot welds on the bed are rusting already and bubbling like rust under paint near the tack welds! He trucks a little over a year old! WTF. Not to mention I had the dealership put on a new factory TRD pro stainless steel cat-back full exhaust system and the muffler looks like there is a 6 inch wide seam of corrosion going around it. This truck has never seen off-road,mud or saltwater ever! Daily driver on the freeway so far! Cleaned and detailed every two weeks!

This is my second Tacoma and this does not build confidence in my truck at all! Thanks, #toyotausa.com

Wire brush and some paint should solve that. Or, take it back to the dealer for some warranty work?

Yeah, seeing rust on the painted body of a newer truck does not inspire confidence!

Damn I’ve been noticing some paint bubbling up maybe some rust under that just hope it’s something that Toyota addresses

Those don’t appear to be factory welds...did you buy your truck new OP? It not I’d venture to say your truck has been repaired in some way. Compare those welds to the opposite side, they should be the same if factory.

My 2018 Tacoma spots welds hardly visible and size of the spots are a lot smaller.

I just spent some time reading thru Toyota’s corrosion warranty...sounds good at first glance but there is a bunch of weasel clauses...I can’t find where they are actually obligated by contract i.e. warranty to cover anything...fuckin smartass lawyers this is gonna be a challenge!

My truck goes in for body rust repair in the middle of the month. Mostly in the driverside doorsill area, including the welds.

Went to dealer today for 25k service...they took pictures of the rust to send to Toyota for review...now waiting for their assessment.

Wonder if they let the bed sit raw for too long and it started to rust before paint. Welding burns off the oil and lets moisture get at the steel.

I just had my hood replaced with a brand new one because of rust coming through from underneath. Dealer took care of it no hassle whatsoever.
