    Hey All,

I am new to aftermarket sound systems, and I am debating putting one in my 17' DCLB Tacoma. I got a quote today, and wanted to run it by people that have experience with the hardware and pricing to see if the price point is on point.

    System:
JL Audio 10'' Sub w/ Custom Stealth Box for Rear 17' Tacoma - 700.00
    - http://www.jlaudio.com/car-audio-stealthbox-toyota-tacoma-double-cab-16-up
    RD900/5 JL Audio Amp - 500.00
    Pioneer 6'' Component Fronts w/ Tweeters (TS-Z65CH) - 300.00
    Pioneer 6'' Coax Ds Rear (TS-D65F) - 120.00

Also they wanted 5.5 hours for install @ 80.00 or a total of 440.00. I don't mind paying for install if this is run rate pricing, I have no intention of doing it myself.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give me regarding pricing, and or quality of the products.

    -RK

If you are spending that good money on a sub and amp, don't buy those speakers at least go JL Audio Components and JL Audio Coaxials in the back. And use some good sound deadening in the rear of the back seats and in the doors. You will need speaker adapters made for the front and rear door speakers

And honestly you can get the sub for 299.99 from Crutchfield and have @Mr Marv build you a nice box for behind the back seats. He can also make the speaker adapters you need as well.

The sub box / sub was the first thing I raised an eyebrow at.

I know JL has an awesome reputation; and for good reason. However, you can get a way better performing system for about half the price. Sub/box combo is a no brainer and @Mr Marv is definitely the place to start. Will save you around $300. Also, the JL amp can be blown out of the water in terms of performance. Basically it splits 75watts over four channels (one for each door, 300 watt total) then dedicates 500 to your sub. You can easily do better with two separate dedicated amps for 40% off (What I did). Speakers are, IMO, personal preference. Especially tweeters. Depending on what the tweeters are actually made of, the crossovers involved with component systems, and the quality of signal you send to them, many equally rated (in terms of power; Watts) tweeter/driver set ups will sound totally different to the ear in terms of clarity, "ping" and pop. If you know anyone with a system that made you say "wow, that sounds amazing" in a similar vehicle, I would ask them for some insight on what they ran. In short, do a bit more research and piece together your own set up to save a bunch of money. Last, in my opinion once again, never give up an opportunity for more woofer and stick with 6x9 components in the front. You wont regret it if you like mid-bass music.
