Roman is a dick. Those guys are based here in Colorado, and I've run into them once at a cars and coffee meet. While I was looking at a car there, I see a guy set up a video camera and point it towards the cars I'm standing by. I continue looking at the car, then I hear someone yell at me to get out of their shot. I turned around and saw that guy, Roman, glaring at me. I guess making car videos is a stressful business. A little courtesy would go a long way, especially when you are among other enthusiasts.

Welp, the wait is over. I got my new truck last night. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. These forums have been great, but ultimately, I went with the Colorado Z71 Diesel. I got the color I wanted as well. I am not going to post the reason why I picked it over the taco to gloat, but for anyone else who may look at this and was in the same dilemma.

    Reason I bought the Colorado:
-Diesel Engine option (I got 27 mpg on the 72 mile trip back home and 3/4 was 2 lane roads up and down windy hills)
-Seating Position ( Adjustable seat and I didnt feel like I was on the floor)
-The ride ( it was tight in corners, had a great turning radius, very comfortable ride)
-Rear seating space (The seating space a little bit bigger, plus the seats fold down without removing the head rests)
-The Interior quality (this is by opinion but I like the interior and the leather wrapped sport seats of the Z71 way better)
-4x4 Auto (this was a big deciding factor)
    -Auto rear Elocker
    -The bumper steps it offers
-height of the cabin ( I dont need steps to get in yet the Taco only has 1.2" more ground clearance, and I dont off road)
    - Payload and towing capacity (1600 payload and 7600 towing)
-The diesel is a tested engine that I cant find many complaints about (the taco's V6 and tranny have way too many issues and in hills it just hunts for gears)

I liked the Taco, but if you are buying a vehicle based on resale and the general look and not how it functions with your needs and wants, then you bought it for the wrong reason. I test drove almost every full size truck and the taco 3 times. As soon as I got in the Colorado and drove it a whole 5 mins, I knew I was in love and it gave me the "this is it" feeling that none of the others did.

Congrats, please keep,us informed of how it goes. I don't disagree with your list, but am surprised at the ride and turning radius.

Whatever floats your boat. I had 2 Chevy S-10s, a 2wd and a 4wd before I bought my first Tacoma in 2006, and man what a difference. I knew the day I drove that 06 home that I would NEVER go back to Chevy. The 2017 Off Road I just bought is my 3rd Tacoma. I've twice taken advantage of the incredible resell value, and in 11 years, I haven't had a single thing go bad in about 150,000 miles of driving them. The S-10s were nothing but problems. Time and time again I had to spend tons of money on repairs. I had to get so much fixed on the 5 year old 4x4 before I moved across the country and right after I got here, the catalytic converter went bad. The 2wd started giving me problems when it was 2 years old. I know they have good designers at GM and their cars are nicer looking than they used to be, but from everything I've seen, they are total junk. I once had a coworker that needed a new engine on an S10 Blazer at 55k miles.

Enjoy the new diesel. I'll be looking at that as well when the time comes again.

Sooth. Enjoy your new truck. (I'd looked very closely at the 2016 Canyon and landed on the Tacoma as a better fit to my needs/wants, but it could have gone the other way if my requirements had been more highway/towing focused)

Great decision on the Colorado diesel. Enjoy the new truck! That is a serious mpg upgrade to the downright terrible mgp of the taco.

Glad to see you got what you needed! Im with most of the other people, and I would like to see updates on how the truck does for you. I'm very interested in the gas mileage because I commute over 100 miles round trip per day. I think once there a few more used diesel canyon/colorados on the market it will be something I highly consider... unless of course Toyota puts a diesel in the Taco. Have fun with the new truck!

Thanks guys! Ill post a pic or two if I can load them up. It Tacoma had a diesel and 4x4 Auto, and maybe better seats, there wouldnt even be a competition. The Taco would win. I travel 7 miles each way to work, but it is heavy suburban, stop and go heavily congested with lots of lights. I go home every lunch hour to let me dog out. So I travel 28 miles round trip a day. I have 1 more leg to go today on the return home trip but my MPG is at 19.4 since I reset the trip this morning before I left.

Diesel is $.30 more around here in PA, its almost $3 a gallon. We have such high prices. there was a $.10 difference in OH which is where I bought the truck. My dad wanted a Silverado, so we test drove one of the ones they had on the lot last night. He hated the tranny in that thing, he absolutely loved my truck and we were actually negotiating to buy the other diesel Colorado they had on the lot. However, they BONUS tagged mine. Which means it was another $3k off. Otherwise you wont find a cheaper diesel Colorado within 200 miles on Pittsburgh. Trust me I looked. They would only go $2k off MSRP on the other one.

The Taco MSRP I was looking at was $38833 and Colorado msrp was $40705. The Taco discounted would have been $35300 and the Colorado after the Bonus tag was $35381. So either way which ever I would have chosen, I would have got a tremendous deal on. Also, just throwing this out there to anyone in Pitt looking for a new 17' Taco. I can give you the details and you could probably get the same discount form the two dealerships, but its only good until end of the month. Beirl in Cranberry and Rohric on 19 in the south hills were the two dealerships offering me this discount on a 17 OR DC Tech Pack.

That seems like a good way to wind up disappointed.

I'm pretty sure you can get a Z71 in 2wd these days.... at least in the Colorado.

It's the internet, everyone knows of someone who who had X issue and it applies to all products of that brand regardless of how many decades ago it was. I know 34 people with Tacoma's that have been absolute steaming piles of failing garbage. I know one guy who had to have his firewall replaced, another the clip on the air box broke. I thought Toyota's were engineered to last in countries where ISIS hides, how can they not design a freaking airbox clip correctly? These are 30 year old trucks, so I will not buy a new Toyota based on this info...

    See how easy that is?

    Meh it's just a truck.

I'm not spending 150k on a sports car with a cvt.

    Autos suck no matter what.
