Any dealer has 17 TRD PRO MT landed at all? It seems like all pictures posted are AT. My local dealer gets 2 ATs allocated but no words on MT. Will the TRD PRO MT be unicorn?

conventional wisdom is that MT production starts later, I don't know when exactly. And of course there will be fewer MT than AT trucks

Where's the "conventional wisdom" come from?? My 16 with M/T was build in Sept 2015. One of the first on the lots at dealers.

Yeah but it's not a Pro. There's only going to be about 2500 of these and only 150 are supposed to be manual.

Wow if that's true, that's a huge let down for a lot of people.

Really don't get the appeal for manual in these trucks. They aren't sportscars, that transmission probably shifts like a dump truck.
I drive a manual everyday but it's a 2015 STi with short shifter and upgraded bushing.
Getting a manual in a pickup truck was never even a thought for me. Talk about a step backwards.

I prefer it when towing. It was a huge learning curve when OffRoad. Not sure if it's "faster" than an auto, but I like to hold certain gears whenever I go fast. It breaks up boring drives. I just like knowing that I'm in control of the vehicle I guess. I'd prefer manual in all vehicles I'm in. Auto gets boring or even annoying if it doesn't shift right.

The real step backwards is a little thing called a torque converter. You'd think someone who drives a manual would understand this but guess not.

Technically, and since I LOVE stirring the pot, subaru's, specifically wrx sti's, run a viscous coupler in lieu of a torque converter.

Edit: I think I may only be partially correct on this.

I've driven manual cars and preferenced that option whenever it's available, but in the Tacoma I thought it might be my first auto in a long while.. Then I went to test drive one and realized quickly that I would not be able to put up with that trainwreck. The shift points were all wrong and getting the thing to downshift when I wanted it to was going to bother me for the life of the vehicle.

I have a '17 OR MT on order and can't wait for it to arrive. Haven't even driven the MT yet and I know it will be perfect for my needs. Plus, I am a stick shift junkie and if they're going to keep the hope alive for stick shift in a truck you bet I am on board to support them.

If that's the case you're going to be disappointed with the Tacoma. Over the years I've owned a '98 SR5 manual and a '00 TRD 4x4 manual and after owning both trucks for several years I'd always wished I'd spent the extra money on an automatic.

Still trying to figure out what the allure for people who don't own a Tacoma to come into a Tacoma forum is

I'll take my FTI billet triple disk 3600 stall, over a clutch any day.

All of my Tacoma's have been manual, not disappointed by any of them. The only thing I really don't care for in my 15 is that the clutch does not catch till the very top of the pedal.

Manual is simply more fun to drive, sport car or not. My supercharger makes it a little more fun though :D

I also prefer the manual when offroading, its way more involved of a process that I find enjoyable, I could understand how some wouldn't though...especially in a bigger truck like the 3rd gens versus my 04.
