These are definitely the tire set I’m going with and got assurance from Kal Tire the 275/70/17’s won’t rub with no lift. I do very mild forestry road 4x4ing in the summer so no narlly rock climbing. Some will say that’s no fun but my fun is getting to the gold mine, the rest is history!

What I’d like to know is what offset would place the sidewall of the tire flush or just slightly past the body with a 17x9” rim?

265/70/17 is 1" bigger than stock diameter.

Right, just seems even that wouldn’t be an issue...

Offset is different and backspace is different. Both will effect how close the wheel is to the suspension and the scrub radius.

I think it depends truck by truck and brand of tires. My ko2s never rubbed at stock height. Some reported minor rubbing with Falkens..

Yeah for sure. I’m saving up for wheels/tires/lift/ possible spacer to fix slight taco lean and bed extender. Oh and tonneau. Never enough money!

    ^^^this^^^

The biggest change going to this setup is the offset (-14mm IIRC), which is wider, and brings the now larger tire even closer to the fenderwell items. Although a 1” increase in overall tire diameter doesn’t seem like much, when coupled with the wider stance, your clearance is tight. I’d say it’s less than 1/2” clearance with this set up, but still not rubbing.

One thing to keep in mind is you will not be able to put chains on the front wheels if you are an extreme snow-wheeler sort of dude after you swap to these wheels/tires. That 1” of clearance from factory with stock tires was to allow for tire chains. Toyota really gave us no extra on these trucks.

Here is the difference between going from a stock OR rim with 265/70R16 tires to the 4Runner TRD Pro wheel with 265/70R17 tires. The 4Runner TRD Pro wheel is 17x7 with an offset of 4mm.

So there is a 21mm difference in offset between the two. Thanks......that’s interesting.

And it says the wheel will fit too. Is any of the rubbing just due to mud flaps? I don't have flaps. Also whats the biggest reason they might rub (when they do)... is it mostly offset? I know the FN pro wheels help with this and the SCS as well.

There is no rubbing whatsoever with a BFG K02, C-rated, 265/70/17 on a TRD 4-runner Pro wheel. No rubbing at all, anywhere, not even on stock mudflaps. It’s not something you need to be stressing over. It’s a proven upgrade. Go for it.

If you go 275/70/17 E-rated K02 on the same 4-Runner pro wheel, you will likely need to remove mud flaps and do very minor trimming of the plastic of the fender well.

If you go 285/70/17 on the 4 runner wheels, you will have to do major trimming and a cab-mount chop if you do not lift. For this (outer) diameter tire the TRD PRO Tacoma black 16” wheels fitted with 285/75/16 tires seem to be a better option as the wheels have slightly less poke, and require a little less cutting and reforming of the fender wells, from what I’ve gleaned from YouTube and the forums.

Ok. I swear I read every page of this thread.

Am I reading correctly that this setup will work for 2017 Tacoma TRDOR without rubbing or issues? Is this the largest tire with stock suspension?

TRD Pro 17" rims and 265/70/17 BFG AT TKO2 tires.

Does this setup weigh less or more than the stock OR setup? I was reading that it’s not great to get heavier wheels / tire setups and if you go bigger tires, get lighter wheels.

Also, anyone happen to know the stock wheel and tire weights?

The reason to go for the 17” 4-runner wheel and the C-rated KO2s, is you get the same slight increase in size, a nice looking stance, and a more aggressive tire, without opting for the 265/75/16 KO2s in E-rating that fit the stock 16” OR wheels. The 265/75/16 K02s are not available in C-rated, so the combo of E-rated with the stock wheels because significantly heavier, and sucks gas and power (compared to stock), while making the ride a lot stiffer/bumpier (more unsprung weight). The 17” TRD 4-runner wheels, combined with the C-rated K02s, are only slightly heavier than the stock setup. Somewhere in this forum or thread are the actual weights, but I’ll let someone else seek them out.

The thing to keep in mind, is the stock Goodyears ride really nice, are very quiet, track straight, are fuel efficient, and in my experience durable, and surprisingly good off road. YouTube is full of videos of newbs rocking tough terrain in stock 3rd gens with stock tires. Changing out to the K02s is as much about appearance as increased performance. Mostly they look super cool, which is hard to argue with.

funny, I was thinking about just getting new ko2s on stock... but figured they made c rated and 265/70 (not just 75). Guess not!

They make KO2's in 265/70R16 but in an E Rated tire, but it's ~$75 more per tire than a 265/75. E rated tires are not that bad of a ride. The extra 4 ply's that are added by going from a C rated tire to an E rated tire adds 8 lbs in a 265/70R17.

So wait, if I wanted the trd pros, I’d have to get the 265/70 anyways correct? Not the 75
