Hey All! Hope everyone is well. I’m sure we’ve all read the debacle with the TSS recall, but one thing has been unclear. The issue was with rain effecting the sensor, but somehow also changing the ride height of your sensor? That seems questionable.

My truck was built in January and as such has the redesigned sensor and doesn’t need to go in for the recall. Has anyone had actual issues with their sensor going wonky because of aftermarket grills or lifts? I went up a size in tires and adaptive cruised the whole way home with no issues. I’d crossed a different grill off my list but now I’m wondering if perhaps there’d be no issues. Thanks!

good morning. i have heard that people are changing out their grill in favor of the trd pro grill and not having any issues. however, i have seen where people still go in for the sensors TSB and the dealer makes them sign a waiver saying that there are "non toyota modifications" (or something like that) to the vehicle (i.e. lifts and grills) and that they will turn the sensor off. you can turn it back on every time you start the vehicle to my understanding.

Doesn't seem to have issues if you use OEM grill and garnish. Most problems were related to mounting the radar and using the incorrect (or no) garnish. I read a lot of threads before installing the pro grill and decided to go OEM for both (total cost $275). No issues at all even though it's made for the pro which still a couple inches higher. Your ride height is probably more accurate.

I bought the OEM grille, garnish, and wiring harness and have had no issues since the install. It’s been on for 3 months now and 4K miles later.

Seems like during a certain production run, they didn't seal the sensors. After they realized it could be problematic, they fixed it.

I have an eBay pro grill with the OEM garnish. I sometimes get the Brake! indicator when there's nothing in front of me or when something is far away but thinks I'm about to slam into it. Radar cruise control still works perfectly.

I haven't taken to the dealer to do the tsb and will probably not in the future.

I went up to 265/70/17's with a knock off China Pro grill that I spent $72 on & no issues with radar. I've been in super hard rains with the factory grill or the Pro grill & never had an issue. I can understand Toyota's reasoning but I think they need to be a lil more scientific & professional about how they are handling the issue

I have an eBay Pro grill and OEM garnish and have had no issues. I refuse to take mine in for the recall. Ridiculous that they are disabling the sensor if you have an aftermarket grill. I get it, but disagree with it. If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it.

I did not change grills but I did put a cover on my TSS .......no degradation at all in it's performance.......I think some bean counter at Toyota decided he or she did not like the Pro grill on non Pro tacomas IMHO

I run an empire grille on a 2019...only had the tss freak out in a downpour in February we seldom see in California. No false brake, but idiot light came on saying tss was unavailable. Hasn't happened since...stock suspension. B043AA94-9636-4823-8AA6-E8F04DCFB90D.jpg
