You can adjust the striker latch. It’s not a lot but there is some play in it. Mine was close to a 1/4” difference before and now it’s just a slight ridge over the rear quarter panel- I can definitely live with that

edit: I didn’t fully read your quoted post about the latch adjustment

My 2020 tailgate shifts to the right after a while and then I have to open the tailgate and push it back to the left in order to get it back to center (it's rubbed a little paint off on the right side near the top). Is there a way to add a washer to the hinge on the right side to prevent it from doing this? Super annoying.

I was mildly surprised when i picked my truck up from the dealer...was hard to remember the last time all the gaps were so perfect. I couldn't even find one paint imperfection. In the past my trucks always had something not quite perfect...especially that tailgate as mentioned above slightly rubbing the paint off one corner of the truck body till you'd see the primer underneath.

I know this is an old thread but if anyone experiences there tail gate not centered just just stand to the side with the small gap and push it towards the other side. You may have to do a couple of times till you get it perfect. The tail gate will easily slide over left or right very easy fix.

oh lol, I guess this was a gravedig thread, but I already started typing, so... I complained about this issue to my dealership, and the salesman walked me around to several new Tacomas on the lot and none were perfectly aligned. I think this is just a matter of factory tolerances.
