So the grill I want on my 2018 OR does not support the tss radar. I personally don't care about the tss features. I don't use cc, don't care about the auto dim and don't care about the collision braking. I'm sure some will think I'm an idiot for giving up tss for a grill, but that's exactly what I want to do.
My question is, can I turn off tss and completely remove the radar with no issues. I've read that I can use techstream to turn it off, but will removing the radar all together cause me any problems?

You realize all the wheel speed sensors, control computers, TSS, VSC and pretty much everything else is all tied together. You block or disconnect the front unit and you can still drive, just with lots of lights and features disabled.
    Good luck.

I don't understand how not having that radar affects VSC, wheel speed sensors etc?

I’m in the same situation as you are. I tried unplugging the sensor and turned the truck on and drove around for a bit. I got lights all over the dash and a message saying there is a TSS malfunction and to take to a dealer immediately.

I figured it out. I started the truck and turned off the pcs via the controls on the steering wheel. Then I used this.
    http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/mini-vci-for-toyota-with-toyota-tis.html
You can buy the cable off Amazon if you want, and download techstream from there, either way it works. I then used techstream to tell the truck to remember the last used setting for the pcs. It's easy but i used the attached instructions. The only light I have on is the little light that says the pcs is off. No big warnings or anything. I removed the sensor from the grille, left it plugged in and zip tied it out of the way. It's been 2 weeks and I have had 0 problems. Hope this helps!

Edit: Before using techstream to remember that I had the pcs turned off, it would just come back on every time I started the truck. With the sensor unplugged I got the same warnings you got. What I wrote above did the trick.

So the sensor is now basically plugged in but not functioning because the system has been disabled? Where did you zip tie it to?

Robmotive covered this a couple days ago on his YouTube channel. Apparently Toyota dealers can disable the TSS for you, if you sign a liability release.

Me, I'd want to keep the features provided by TSS, especially the dynamic cruise control. :anonymous:

Yea, the pcs is off and the sensor is still plugged in. I zip tied it on the under side of one of the two plastic arms that the grille assembly is attached to.

Thanks, I’m going to call my dealer and ask if they can disable the system like mentioned in the video that Tullie D just shared. If they don’t agree to disable it for me then I will go ahead and try your method that you used to disable yours. I’m not familiar with using techstream so hopefully the dealer can just disable it and that will be it.

Alternatively, you could buy a grill that would accept the sensor? :notsure:

Tech stream is pretty simple. That was the first and only time I've used it. It's pretty straightforward, especially for just changing this setting. The dealer would be easier though for sure. I would just be leary of signing any kind of waiver.
The grille's that accept the sensor, usually have this big ugly square blank piece of plastic in them.

Grandpa if i cut the belt off my smog pump will i gain sixty horsepower? Sure! Proceeds to cut the belt for the A/C compressor, because he thinks the smog pump is the turbo.

    That would be too easy.

Cool, I’ll look more into it if I need to. Hopefully the dealer will just do it for me. I’m going to call them tomorrow and report back with their response.

Mine was a little tricky because I used a win7 pc. The install wizard on win7 wasn't compatible with the install wizard for the driver for my cable. I had to manually install the driver and change some registry data to get it to work. I feel like just downloading a different version of techstream would work. Try the instructions on the link I posted.

I work next door to a Toyota dealer. A Toyota tech says TSS can be disabled by the dealer. They recommend it to all customers with a lift kit installed.

Is that the exact cable and software you got in the link you provided that worked for you?

I went to the dealer today and they refused to disable my sensor or program it to stay off. So now I guess my only option is to get the software and cable and do it myself.
