What offset do I want on an 18X9 wheel to be flush with the fender. And what about with a 17X8?

My 18x9's have 5.4" backspacing and they sit out about 3/4" of an inch past the fenders with 265's.

    So that's a +10mm offset.

I have 18x9"s on 285/65-18"s and they stick out about 1 inch past the fenders with a -12mm offset.

This statement is incorrect, as it all depends on offset.

I'm running 18x9's right now with 0 offset, and mine sit flush. You would need to run a negative offset in an 8" wide wheel to get flush (diameter doesn't matter, only width).
