I know this may sound silly but...

If you really do think 'if that was me' kinda thing about cops messin' with you, I would strongly urge you to read the book or listen to the book on tape (I'm sure it's in your town's library), "How to Win Friends and Influence People."

I listen to it every couple of years and it's good stuff. I personally guarantee that you will get better customer service and respect from nearly everyone - therefore you will get $100's of dollars in savings from reading a $5 book.
