I have an 03 ext. cab just rolled over 180K, 4wd TRD. I sometimes take off on very long trips and use my truck for daily driving plus moderate 4 wheeling, gently. It's not lifted, although I'm planning on a 2" OME lift at some point, and it has 235/85/16's on it. I got it at 160K miles, used from a dealership, in generally "neglected daily driver" condition. I put about $3000 into it right off the bat getting everything baselined, all fluids, belts and hoses, new timing belt, yadda yadda, but nothing really mechanical has popped up.

I can see sludge inside when I remove the oil fill cap but I have heard so many conflicting things about this that I honestly don't know what to make. I change the oil every 3000-4000, dino obviously.

It is a sweet truck, smooth as silk, and I wondered if there is anything I should be doing in the "preventive replacement" line at this point. Some people wait until something breaks, then only fix that...others tend to replace stuff ahead of time which can be wasteful I guess.

Things I'm thinking about - new upper and lower ball joints? New wheel bearings? New U joint and carrier bearing? Maybe a new radiator? New transmission cooler? Alternator? Starter?

Is there something I'm not thinking about?

Or should I just relax and wait for something to break? Should I just have a coke and a smile and enjoy my truck?

If parts are in good working order there is no need to replace them, the one exception being the water pump when you do the timing belt. At 180k I suspect you are looking at repeating the 90k maintenance schedule.

If parts shown signs of wear them look into replacement. Example, truck runs warm on hot days due to partially clogged radiator, then it should be replaced. No sense in replacing perfectly good working parts.
