Is 2700, out the door, a good price? for 4.88 gears+installation. I live in Michigan as well, so if anyone knows of places in Michigan, it would be much obliged

That's exactly what I paid for 5.29s + install at ECGS a few months ago

I paid $3195 + tax for parts and labor to regear and replace all the seals on my 2011 Tacoma this year. Went to 4.56.

Seems expensive. This price is out the door with parts and labor warranty‍♂️

Sounds like a fair price for all the work involved. I would be happy with it.

It was actually another $32 for diff fluid, but yes, that was everything out the door on that. I had other work done at the same time, but he had it all itemized and that's what it came to. I'm in the greater Seattle area, so I'm sure that didn't help. That and the backup over here is month's out for this type of work at any reputable shop. I'm just glad I got it done, and it's been AWESOME.

If you've got an automatic trans I'd recommend considering 5.29s over 4.88. Even with just 33s the 5.29s seem like a perfect fit and I think I would've regretted not going all the way if I went with 4.88

I know this really doesn't help you but Premier West Gears on the west coast is doing gears for $1850 on their group buy special.. I jumped in on that and couldn't be happier. But I also added the rear e-locker so I paid a little more out the door... But I couldn't be happier.. Now my truck drives like it used to before I added any mods...

Were you not at all concerned about the large decrease in surface area contact from gear to gear going all the way to 5.29s?

WOW. That's how much my labor was alone. Any idea what brand of gears they are using and if they are replacing all the seals and bearings, or JUST the gears??

Larger gears would bring rpms to high only running 33s and light weight.

Check out the posting... It's still up in the group buys... All the info is there. That included the master install kit. Just had the work done over thanksgiving... Like I said, I did add a rear e-locker so I paid more than $1850.. And I drive a 6 speed manual.. That is why I went with the 4.88's.... If I had an auto, then I would have gone with 5.29's.. And no locker option on the sport model.. Just in case anyone is wondering...

I think he means labor alone. There's no way that's with gears.

Group buy is still up in the section... Check it out... I paid $1299 more for my e-locker I believe. But price is legit... That's all they do....

Not at all. ECGS gives a 5 year warranty on parts and labor. That gave me plenty of confidence

And just to completely honest here, I paid $600/set to have them REM polished so that I didn't have to stop every 35 miles to cycle heat.... I live in the bay area and would never have gotten home if I didn't do that.. LOL.

How was the drive home if you dont mind I am asking? When I drive my truck thru the grapevine, the truck is struggling going up the pass and I have to downshift all the way to 4th gear sometimes. Does it help now that you have regeared to 4.88? I have 32" tire now with a camper shell.

Its a night and day difference on highway. I can go up hill at 75 in 6th and don't need to down shift. Gained about 4 mpg and way smoother shifting as well. Truck feels lighter with more power to the road.
