Since the front strap on his Colt's frame isn't checkered, I recommended the Gunner grips. Totally forgot to mention that they'd most likely need sanding...thanks for bringing that up.

If I ever decided to get back into 1911's - and that's going to take a heck of a lot - I'd go with a stippled front strap, checkered flat mainspring housing and well sanded Gunners.

VZ's 320 grips are nice too.

My Taurus PT1911. Got it as the truck/nightstand gun, and the previous owner gave me a deal I couldn't turn down for it and a bunch of accessories. Not a bad budget 1911 if I do say so myself.

I have one just like it and I changed the front sight to fiber optic. Best shooting gun right out of the box.

IMG_20150609_224722_149.jpg I'll play too. Just found this thread. This belonged to my wife's grandfather. Serial #9xxxx, dates it to 1914 according to colt.
Took her out to the range a couple weeks ago, man what s nice smooth action.
And hopefully at the end of the summer I'll be adding a Kimber solo.

Thank you, the Kimber is actually my bro-in-law so another family pass on. He's in the evil west coast no gun zone so:)

Is that a completely original finish?

Yes all original. It hadn't been touched in 30 years. So just a strip down, oil, and good to go.

I couldn't let such a beauty go unused. Once I made sure everything was OK and lubed, cycled it and straight to the range.
It was a good day, let my buddy shoot it as well and he was just kinda speechless. He said wow a couple times. I'll try and get some better pics tomorrow.

That's great. It is for sure a piece of history that deserves to be shared. Pass that forward to as many as you're willing. Very few get the the privilege in life!

Nice Baer. Looks like some slim profile grip screws are in order.

That's a very fine 1911 you have there...

Props to you for taking it to the range...if it were me, you'd be calling me "Gollum" and that one would be referred to as "My Precious."

I had the opportunity to shoot one of these several years ago. Loved it. Just seemed to be a great, overly well-built and workhorse of a gun. Great anniversary gift...you must be doing something right
