    You like it?
    Shoots well?
It'll keep em inside of 6" at 25yd?

Who cares what anyone else thinks.

I've seen shooters take a GI spec gun and out shoot a custom 1911. The gun don't make the shooter, having a familiarity with the gun makes the shooter.

The custom guns I dig are some what understated you have to look close to see what's been done and typically tight fitting but smooth. My gun has +50k rnds through it the slide is a bit loose but the fit between the slide and frame feels like it's running on ball bearings.

High end 1911s aren't always more accurate, but they are always far nicer built and finished than a budget 1911.

A handgun in a ransom rest might shoot 1.5" groups at 25 yards, and 12" groups hand fired by someone who doesn't shoot much and isn't familiar with that gun.

I've never paid a premium for accuracy, but I've paid a premium for quality and I'll do so every time I'm able to.

    going to be fun!
You can't go wrong with a Springfield Armory TRP for the money and will out perform many higher end 1911's hands down.....

My G21 shoots the same groups as a Springfield Professional which has far more fitting and is 5x the price.

    Which is unfinished?

Would you believe in hand held shooting the Professional (2 actually) shot equal groups at that distance to the Ed Brown Executive Elite, Wilson CQB, Kimber TLE RL, Les Baer TRS, G21..

    .. and a subcompact G30?

Your comment sounds nice but isn't generally measurable in reality.

All blow the X ring out at 25 yards with a competent trigger man and a full magazine.

All vary wildly in price and fit and level of finish.

Guess we should establish a baseline.

I've shot and handled a supposed to have been custom built 1911 that would short stroke every few rounds, stove pipe like crazy, would not lock the slide consistently on an empty mag, it didn't matter what mags you tried and we were running AmerEagle ball ammo.

I've also shot a number of Les Baers, Ed Browns, Wilsons and EGWs that were like butter. Not only were those guns OlyChit accurate but due to the reliability it allowed you to just shoot em.

The cost or the name of the gun doesn't rock me. Reliability and accuracy do.

The nicest shooting 1911 I've personally fired has been the SA Professional.

If it had 30 LPI checkering it would be phenomenal for me.

The nicest looking was the Ed Brown, surprise surprise - but the TRS owns my heart.

Would buy another Baer before any other maker. They speak to me the loudest, and they're gorgeous pistols.

I think the Baers are super nice, I came real close to picking up a lightly used 38super.

I did the checking on my Springfield, picked up a 25 line/in layout file from Brownells and tried it on some scrap steel before I did my gun. I ended up checking a couple other guns for friends.

    That's awesome.

Any pics of that? I was gonna give that a go with a Kimber Pro Carry HD, and bobtail the frame but ended up parting ways with it.

The guy I sold it to left it on his tailgate a few months later and then drove an hour home from the range.

It did not stick to the tailgate. :bananadead:

    Pics of my Springfield?

No pics of the 38 super,..
We couldn't agree on the price of admission.

Note to self: double check tailgate before leaving the range.

Question - I've been getting quite a few light strikes with my Springfield Champion Operator, more than I'd like to have to feel comfortable. First 1911 but not new to handguns by any means. Not limp wristing, have been shooting for years and have the technique down. Been doing some research and sounds like I should upgrade the titanium firing pin to a heavier steel one. Also have been reading about changing the recoil spring, but have been inundated with so much information that I feel lost and confused as to where to start first. Hopefully y'all can help a brother out.

Light strikes are most likely the titanium firing pin or gunk in the channel. How many rounds through her?

Thanks for the info Rogue, confirmed my suspicions. Only about 800 rounds down the pipe, cleaned religiously as well.
