    Find out what features you want, set a price range then go from there. Leave about 200 for mags/ammo and parts, thats a good place to start. Dont worry about manufacturers quite yet, theres too many models, trims, styles features to think about.

    My first 1911 was carry so i wanted a lightweight commander. Added sights, grips, holster and some mags.

    My Springfield custom:
    I started with a Stainless Springfield match in 9mm then built the gun to suit me.
    The thing about these guns is they are like a small block Chevy, there are a crapton of hod rod parts and no two will be alike.

    That's precisely why I'm lusting over it instead of fondling it at the range, lol. Currently I don't have a .38 Super in my arsenal, and I'm really not looking to add another caliber to my ammo stockpile. Not until I get set up for handloading stuff other than shotgun shells, at least.
