Is that the Wilson front strap checkering?

 

I never used any files. Installed the jig for the rough grind of the radius, then used a Cratex bit in a rotary tool and slowly shaped it. I just need to blend it on the hammer side to frame and it should be good to go. Functions perfect with the trigger.

 

My every day crap around 2006. Used to switch back and forth between the two.

 

which mags do you guys run/prefer?

Realized the other day that I'm severely lacking in the magazine department and don't really know jack shit about pistol mags

 

I haven't used a wide variety so I can't say mine are better than X,Y,Z, however I've been using Wilson 47DCB's for about 9 years. I think only one of them spread a little at the feed lips, though I think it was grabbed from a used bin at work so I'm not sure what it was subjected to.

I usually run them to check for function and then try to put mileage on all the factory mags I have. Metalform, Colts, etc.

Another Springer I had at one point:

 

Only one Wilson mag really malfunctioned out of maybe 12 or so total.

 

For my 1911's I run only Wilson Combat & Chip McCormick's Power Mags.

 

Indeed it is. Obviously nowhere near as nice as some custom work, but it's much better than I expected for the $10 or whatever it is they cost.

I have a Remington R1S and love it. No picture though

 

I've just been using standard Kimber mags in my SR1911, plus the factory mag. Right now it's just a range gun so I haven't wanted to drop the $$ for the Wilsons yet.
I'm satisfied with the Kimbers so far, though. No jams, they load easy, and seem like they're built pretty well. They're no race mags, that's for sure, but my SR1911's not a race gun. If I was to start carrying it and trusting my life to it I'd probably upgrade mags, though.

Almost 1000 rounds through it so far (plus whatever the previous owner ran through it), and the front sight hasn't fallen off or anything. No rust, either, but you've made me nervous so I keep stripping it down and checking.

Finally talked a friend/store owner out of one of the 2 TRP Operators he owns.
I look forward to shooting it tomorrow and have a 10-8 rear fixed sight that will be replacing the adjustable.
