The machining isnt a big deal for me, just picking the right parts and fitting them since I know next to nothing about 1911s other than I really want one.
Was looking at the tactical machining 80, but I'll check out the caspian too.

Been really tempted to sell off my Glock 21 Gen 4 for a Remington R1 1911 Stainless the past few days... The 1911 popped up on sale on grabagun.com for $575 shipped with a $75 rebate. I've also got a Glock 23 FDE among other things, it would be nice to have a 1911 too. Decisions decisions...

The same shit everyone else has.
My girlfriend picked this up for me a few months ago as a birthday gift when Field and Stream had them on sale.

    Ruger SR1911.

This is my first pistol. Ive hunted all my life so I've always had deer rifles and shot guns, but never a pistol.

Ive only shot about 200 rounds through it so far, but I love the thing. For the price, you really cant beat it.

The 1911 is an amazing piece of engineering - ahead of its time.

With very minor variations on it the original design, it's still available and fits right in.

Conversely, consider a motorcycle or car built in 1911. If presented with one - I bet you couldn't even start it, let alone drive it. Choke, clutch, crank start, non-synchronized transmission, manual spark advance....

Yet the 1911 led the way with all the components of the modern semi-auto pistol that really has hardly changed at all.

Slide, side ejector, safety, grip safety, grip magazine.

Now, I'll grant that the modern glock style hammer and the S&W "double action" style hammer are significant changes in firing mechanism.

It's still an amazing piece of engineering for its day, and it's still relevant 100 years later. Kudos to John M. Browning.

It's funny, my Dad knew John and Billy Browning, the current heirs, and introduced me to one of them probably 10 years ago. I can't remember which one it was, but I briefly brought up 1911's and he couldn't have cared less lol. Shame. Nice people, just not interested in that part of their name? Or just sick of it? Not sure.

John Browning claimed his Hi Power was a better design.

I was just scoping one of these out the other week at the gun shop. Really thinking about getting one.

That's because it was an evolution of the original design.
Plus, no manufacturer is ever going to say that their old product was better than the one they just came out with.

I'm a big fan of mine. Affordable, accurate, and (so far) reliable.

I've been a huge fan of Ruger guns, but the only 1911 I shot was a Springfield and it was sex. But the cost of the Springfield is too much for something I just want to have but will never carry.

The Ruger is definitely worth checking out. I wanted a 1911 for target/sport shooting. I dont carry it often, but I have the option if I want

Same. I haven't carried mine much, either, but I also like having the option. I'm going winter camping next weekend and will probably bring it as my belt gun rather than my 5906.

Mine is. Last time you mentioned it I checked it out to make sure. Then I stripped it down completely and cleaned and oiled the safety as a precaution because I was still nervous. And then I checked it again, lol.

    You must have Beavis'd it.

Yeah, especially if you've got it loaded with Critical Doody's. It could spontaneously fire! :goingcrazy:

Gotta love TW, they have a thread for everything! Anyways, I've had my R1 Enhanced for about 2 years now. My favorite I've ever shot was a Range Officer but this one is pretty nice too. The TRPs posted on here are very tempting too.
