I was getting rusty....hadn't been to the range in a while.

A couple new 1911's inspired me to get my arse to the range.

The first new one was a Dan Wesson Valor Commander Limited that was begging to go.

Lubed up and ready to rock'n'roll.

The owner's manual has a short list of suggested lubes. I've been following along with the development of this Weapon Shield stuff....and even spoke with the owner & founder of the company who developed it. He'd sold off his prior lube that was altered some by the new owners. I have confidence in this new stuff and wanted to start off my DW with it as well as convert two other Springfields to it and see how they ran.

The other new gun was a Springfield MilSpec I'd just bought a couple weeks prior. It'd been test fired in a riverside can plinking season only. It fed & functioned perfectly. Gun is very snugly fitted and feels great in hand. Stripped it down and got all the prior lube off and hit it with Weapon Shield and swapped out the grips with the 2nd pair that came with the gun. I'm still deciding what I want to do with the gun.....thinking a longer trigger & some front strap checkering will be done. I'd like to have it bead blasted then, too.

Next up was my trusty Springfield TRP. It's been flawless since day one some 3.5 years ago. Great gun that I've thoroughly enjoyed.

Took them to the range and ran a few hundred rounds through 'em. Winchester white boxed 230gr, American Eagle 230gr ball and some 200gr lswc reloads. Each goblet up all loads with zero issues.

I sucked at getting pics of the targets as my Dad and I were shooting swiftly and going through several guns. He'd brought a small arsenal with him. :)

The sole target pick I took was of the final target....or what was left of the final target. I had 5 full magazines of ammo remaining. I picked out a clean spot on the lower edge of the target that was hanging and put a round in it. I then aimed at the hole the shot made and let it ride in quick order...riding the reset as the front sight settled on the hole. 40 rounds went fast.

I'm really looking forward to getting some more range time with this gun. I'm hoping to have some more lswc reloads for it by next Monday's range session.

The fit and finish of this pistol has me very pleased and wanting more Dan Wesson's.

I'll give them a look when I add the next two 1911's I'd like to add: railed .45acp for nightstand use.........and.....10mm for hunting. A Specialist and a Bruin would be mighty nice !!!

I'd have likely kept going...but ran outa all ammo, except the carry ammo that I was using in the TRP that week. Saved it, wiped the TRP down afterwards...hit the slide with a couple drops of oil and reloaded it and the spares with the Gold Dot carry loads. We'd been shooting the range Dad is a member of. Air conditioned comfort with fans blowing on us on a 95 degree day. Super spot. Run by the nicest folks you could imagine, too.

We were on a road trip driving my wife's Rav4. The TRP lived in her glovebox when it wasn't holstered at 3:30 in a Simply Rugged slide holster. It's super comfortable, especially on long road trips and can hold all my current 1911's regardless the slide length.

Without a doubt....1911's are my favorite handguns to shoot.

My TRP story goes like this.....

Went shooting with my son in law, and he calls me and says he is bringing a friend.
We meet at the off ramp, 8 trucks waiting!.

So as the day goes by, my son in law wants to shoot my xd 45 and I his RIA 1911. At this time I owned zero 1911's but shot a1911 in The Marine Corps.

As we start loading magazines, his buddy says, "You gotta shoot my 45." He turns around with this over sized case, Angels started to sing, the sun was warm and beaming. I take the TRP OPERATOR from the case, rack the slide, aim and slowly dry fire it.
I turn back to Him and said, "you're like a drug dealer, first taste is free.

It took me 3 months to find one. I now own 9 1911's, I think maybe they are like rabbits.

I also bought a Les Bauer, Thunder Ranch Special Anniversary Edition.

The price is almost twice, but the difference is only slight.

    Love my OPERATOR!

Thanks for reading folks! Anyone notice the carbon build up on the muzzle? Can't praise the reliability enough.
If I had the money at the time I would have bought the test gun.
I have a MC Operator that won't quit and is a good alternative to the TRP if you are on a budget.

I have a Springfield match 9mm it’s about 14yrs old and only thing I’ve need to change out is the recoil spring, they’re usually good fer 2-3k or so rounds. I use 14lb Ed Brown’s

I think it just a matter of SA not paying for the specific testing MA requires; since it's a small market they probably don't want to pay for it. Can't own most Glocks here either. So stupid.

Hang on, I'm confused. A 1911 is a 1911 - what does manufacturer have to do with it? It's not like .45 ACP in a Colt is any less dangerous than from a Springfield.

Basically every gun sold in MA has to have 5 (I think) sent off for testing if they want to be sold in MA. I'm told it's not cheap to have them tested. Some crap along those lines.
