What do you guys recommend for a good 1911 oil/lube? I took my Springfield out today and it would cycle. It was about 29 degrees out and I don’t think I’ve cleaned it the last couple times I’ve shot. But would have expected it to be okay for more than 50-100 rounds between cleaning. And tips?

You should definitely get more than 100 rnds
I’ve used all sorts of gun lubes, lately I’ve been running on the ALG Go-juice. Are you running the gun wet? Wet attracts powder leavings and turns into gack paste like chit.

A thin film is all I’ve ever used. When lubing the gun I use a couple drops on the swing link, use my finger to wipe the ramps that the slide release rides on also wipe the lock up lugs. I put a couple drops on the rails of the lower frame and spread with my finger then wipe the end of the barrel where it locks up in the bushing. Finish assembly, rack it a few times and take it out to the range n drive it like yah stole it.

    image.jpg

By the way my gun has +50K rnds through it

The manual is a bit dated but the M&M manual will show you everything thing you need to know about field stripping or detail stripping the 1911

Honestly,I can’t remember how I cleaned it last time. I’m still new to 1911s and not as good as cleaning and caring for firearms as I should. I normally just wiped the firearms down with a silicone cleaning cloth to prevent rust and then put them away. I think I only used a little oil on a few contact points last times I fully cleaned and lubed it. I’ll have to pay more attention.

Someone at the shop where you bought it should be able to show you how to field strip your 1911 and actually that goes for any gun you buy.

Try shooting it with almost no lube when it's cold. Or use a dry lube. My Beretta was slowed down so much in the cold there was a pause in the cycling process, same with my 1911. I clean and dry day before a match, use a lightly damp cloth with clp, or dry teflon lube and usually good to go.

Any oil seems to just get very thick and slows things down, like in a cold engine.

I’ve been thinking about this more. And I’m guessing last time I cleaned it, I was watching the YouTube from Mrgunsngear where he strips it and recommends how to clean it. I likely used the oil provided with the gun.
