1965 Chevy C10 restoration

Should I add A/C with the restore?

Decided to make a separate thread for my '65 as my taco build is pretty cluttered.

Truck is a 1965 Chevy C10 long bed fleet side.

    Engine: Chevy 230 I6
Trans: Chevy factory 3 speed manual (On the tree)

The truck is in pretty rough shape, the floor pan is rusted out, theres rust in one bedside, the floor is rotted out in the bed, and the engine is seized (Currently soaking in diesel, ATF, and acetone).

    Back story:
My grandpa bought it in 1970 for $500, my Dad, Aunts, and uncle all learned to drive in this truck, and it was my dad's truck until 1985 (He bought a little dodge and ended up driving it more than this truck), so It's been sitting since '85 (The last inspection sticker was for '85).
It sat under a barn for 20 years, then hurricane katrina took the barn down around the truck so it's been out in the open since katrina.

    The plan:
Work on cleaning it up and get a list of what exactly is missing/screwed up.

So far after I get it unsiezed and to get it to run all I need is:
Carburator -$170 (Rebuilt to manufacturers specs)
radiator hoses (Not sure on cost)
    Spark plugs (Cheap)
    Oil and filter change
and a temporary way to deliver fuel so I can run it.

I really want to keep it factory powered, but at the same time I want more power, so I'll likely run it as is (If I can unsieze it without pulling the block) and eventually do a rebuild with 250 pistons, larger carb, and machine the head a little to up the compression.

If I go with a V8 it will likely be a 5.3 or 6.0 chevy with a T-56 behind it, but I want it to look like a classic engine.

And down here I'll list different ideas.

First off, I really like this one.

    Parts needed for 4.8/5.3 swap.

    Intake
    Fuel Rail
    Standalone ECU?

Pulled the head today, valves were not frozen so that's good.
However cylinders 5 and 6 are frozen, they are currently soaking in marvel mystery oil and tomorrow the MMO will be removed and I'll pour in some ATF/Acetone mix and try tapping on the cylinders with a 2x4 and small hammer so the ATF/Acetone will penetrate better.

I haven't had time to mess with this between a full time school schedule, part time job, and getting ready to move.
However soon I'll be moving to a new house with a 30x40 shop so I may be able to get it inside and pull the hood and fenders to make it easier to fool with.

Well I've been doing some research, I can get a used (Junkyard) 4.8 motor for $200, not sure on what trans I want to put behind it though, I think NV3500 might be the simplest but I kind of want a T-56 for the extra OD gear and the ability to hold more power.

Once we move (Hopefully 3-5 weeks) we have to pull the cab off of our F250 and do headstuds and a few little things then after that we'll get the '65 in the shop and I'll pull the hood and fender, possibly engine and trans, and then start repairing the rust holes in the bed and door, and fix the floorpan.

Ultimate goal is to be able to drive it up to Virginia to my uncles body shop for paint december break of '17. however I'm not sure if school and work will give me enough time and funding to finish it up by then.

Finished up the Ford a few weeks ago, cleaning up the shop so we can get the Chevy in it without it being a mess.
I've pretty much decided to go with a 5.3 LM4 or other LS, no AC (Subject to change) and a T-56, i would like to build the motor just a little bit before I drop it in, probably just a mild cam and maybe heads, I don't want to push the factory T-56 to much.

When I get in the shop I'm gonna go ahead and pull the block so I'm not dealing with it, gonna build a stand for it, seal it up and store it out in the shed in case my dad wants it for his 53 chevy.
Then I plan on lifting the cab and getting everything cleaned up really well, gotta weld in new floor pans and I'm gonna focus on getting the body fixed up so it doesn't keep rusting.

Still haven't brought the truck to the shop, still trying to get it organized but tomorrow while I'm in town i'm gonna find some used tires so we can actually roll the thing around.
Looked at the truck today and one rim has a hole rusted in it and 3 tires are flat, local place has 2 used tires that should fit for $15 each so I'm gonna pick those up, and I think I can find another tire up at my grandparents.
As for the wheel with the hole in it I found a spare rim, but am going to try to fix the wheel when I get a chance.

I also decided that she will be named Lila, translates to "night" in Arabic and I think it'll work with the body color I want to go with.

Looking to have her in the shop in 9 days.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
Truck is behind the shop for now, I have a TBI 350 SBC and 700R4 to go in the truck when I have time, currently working at the post office (holiday hours are crazy) running a business with my dad, and gearing up to go to the police academy.
I also have a supercharged 3rd gen 4runner that is sitting in the shop with the S/C removed, lower intake removed, and new injectors, knock sensors, and a few other things to go in.
I also have an old ford tractor In the corner of the shop that needs to go back together (My uncle and grandpa tore it down, grandpa has cancer (4th round) so he's not up to putting it back together and my uncle doesn't think he can put it back together himself. After the tractor is done then out D3 dozer is going in to have the transmission gone through, after that the shop may be open for the chevy.

Got any pics of your truck? It's awesome it was a single owner.

None major, I need to get some tires on wheels so I can get the engine/tranny donor vehicle moved, I got a 1972 postal jeep that I need to sell so I can get the floor pans for the '65, drop in engine/trans, redo the brake system, re-upholster the seat and test drive it. (sounds simple, right?)

Hahaha cake walk! I’m going to try to get mine running this weekend. I have to put new freeze plugs in, clean up the exhaust manifold, new gaskets, then put it all back together. Hopefully it all goes smooth. How are you re-upholstering the bench? Mines pretty rough but for $150-$200-ish I could just buy a brand new one so I dunno. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
