Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
And there are many reasons why I am sure.

The new trucks are better in almost every way.

Really the only thing that the new trucks can't beat are the low operating cost, the physical size and feel that makes certain types of wheeling better in the older one and of course nostalgia.

I would say reliability but thats covered under operating cost. The frames in the old trucks were stronger too.

Then again they made 7 foot beds, true 2wd trucks and 3/4 as well as 1 ton trucks. None of which you can get in a new one. That and diesel. Or chicks..

2016 All day. 85 would be sweet for nostalgic purposes, but can't deny technology/comfort/usability of the newer one.

    now to take cover... :crapstorm:

Other than power and a rear locker, none of the tech is important or better than the 85 to me. And the 85 sr5 had the best seats toyota has ever put in a truck, so it wins comfort lol.

And unless your towing, or require 4 doors the 85 wins all day for usability. Bigger beds, same payload or more and they actually had decent springs. And it wasn't a cow for its size

It's a TRD PRO grille, and yes it fits '12-'15. It's not cheap tho for what it is just had to have it

    For sure.

I've ridden in several in Guatemala that have been rode hard and put away wet. Literally. I've gone on mountain roads that would pass for trails here, and a Gen3 would never fit. In those real third world situations, whizz bang electronics are not your friend either. Nor are weak frames.

As far as my use here stateside, I'm a low mileage sports and home improvement hauler. It would pull a flats boat, haul kayaks and bikes just fine.

But the bodies on those babies can tend to suffer rust...........

Just to point out. 1985 extra cabs in 4x4 were all 6ft beds. No long bed. If you got an 84-88 2wd you could get an extra cab long bed 7ft 3 inch

Definitely an 85, I have one and it is awesome. 2nd and 3rd gen do nothing for me, too big, too fat. Decent wheels though.
Of course I am kinda biased

85 all the way. i think those old toyotas has a certain rugged truck look to them that the new ones cant match. Also less electronics, and easier to maintain engine. that to me is a winner. i hate all the new electronics they put in these new cars.

Trick question! I've got one of each. My '85 is built for rock crawling here in the Sierra's and is still street legal and I just bought an '17 TRD OR DBLB for my daily driver. Now I need to figure out how I'm going to tow my '85 to the Rubicon this year...
