I’d shoot for a 3rd Gen runner if that’s what you’re looking at, cheaper, most the time.

87 was the last year of the 22R in pickups

Wait, so it's TWO trucks? Parts truck plus the one pictured?

Still think $4k is a bit steep, even for 2 trucks, lol...

KBB doesn't show vehicles older than 1992, so I put in a 1992 regular cab 4x4 in "fair" condition with 186k, and it came in at ~$2400. And again, that's a 1992...

    https://www.kbb.com/toyota/regular-...|true&pricetype=private-party&vehicleid=12821

Yeah yeah, I know, KBB isn't great at pricing "in demand" vehicles, but it still is a starting point...

It looks like a lot of work needs to be done, especially to the suspension. $4K is too much in my opinion but everyone is different.

The old pickups are unobtanium at this point, I've been looking for one in my area for three years now and haven't found a single one for sale. If you pull up cargurus and search for 80s pickups with 4x4, there are 9 for sale nationwide. The cheapest is 6k for a truck that needs to be trailered. Average price is $19k. I wouldn't expect that truck to last very long at 4k. It seems like a great candidate to fix up and flip for triple the price.

The only thing I miss about my 83 and 89 (bought new) was the "long bed" option. Reg cab and 7' bed was nice. Well, kind of a toss up with the Taco excab.

Rust was an issue on the beds. The 83 started to rust at the bed/side seam early on. The single wall bed didn't help and that was garaged in SoCal, driven in the rain maybe ten times in it's life. Japanese truck, American bed.
The carb float chamber would would spill into the intake and stall the engine on steep climbs. Fortunately the wiper fluid nozzles would start peeing first as a warning.
Timing chain guides were a serious issue if ignored.
Then there were the "secret warranties", like the undersized/oiled transmission bearing or the front wheel bearings shipped dry from the factory.

They are not bad trucks if your commute is short like a few miles.

Live in a rural area or small town.

    I avoided any 4 lane Highways .

I still have a few sitting around most likely go for scrap no interest around here for vehicles that old I will never get around to doing anything with them

Oh come on, I could get her up to 90, down hill with a tail wind in no time at all, usually before I could finish a sandwich.

This is going to be a hunting truck and short commutes to the river. I have 19 Tacoma for the highway. The parts truck is the exact same truck same color 4x4 without the lift. Going to be a hard decision but I would rather have the 22re in it out of the parts truck.

The 22R hybrid I had in my 4runner was as fast as my 3rz Tacoma on the freeway. Speed isn't an issue if you build the engine right. It's the carb. High altitude and cold weather made it an issue.

Lets not forget mileage on the ENGINE !!

It was a great engine started right up the fact I could spin the engine with my hand on the crank pulley with the plugs in was not important .

No one said those are final sales prices that you are mandated to adhere to when selling it, but they do give a pretty good idea of what a vehicle is generally worth based on several factors.

KBB is hardly perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than "some guy on the interwebs said he'd pay $X for it."

Offer less but I'd lean on buying it. If fixed up you could probably end up selling it for a good profit(restored ones fetch like 18k or so). Or like you said turn it into a hunting truck. It looks well suited for that
