I have a 1992 4Runner that I would like to build out as a dedicated Baja vehicle.

Was looking for recommendations on what people would do and buy suspension wise.

Should I swap out 200k motor to the 3.4?

Let me know as I am really excited about this new adventure.

    PS: I have a 2006 Tacoma prerunner.

What motor do you currently have, 22re or the 3.slow? The 22re is a great little engine, but might be too underpowered for a proper Baja 4runner. The 3.4 would give you plenty more power than both those engines plus a wide variety of mods you could add to create more power. If you're capable of doing the swap, I'd say go for it.

    I have the 3.0 motor.

What I really need is a good list of things to do to get it ready. I am going to Mexico to surf so off reading is not primary reason.

A new motor would make me feel better about being 14 hours from home too.

Well, when you say Baja I'm thinking of a desert racing kind of suspension setup, which I'm not very familiar with personally but I do know that they are VERY involved, parts-heavy and expensive to do. But totally worth it in the end. You're also limited by the age of your 4runner, it's getting harder to find aftermarket parts for anything pre-Tacoma (1995) it seems like.

Here's a Total Chaos setup for the early 4runners, http://www.chaosfab.com/86-95-4WD-Pickup-4Runner-T100-Long-Travel-Suspension-Kit-95200.html

That's probably the direction you want to go in with suspension.

I don't think this has to be a crazy off road build. Some nice suspension, some bigger tires and a few other bits and pieces to make it capable off road vehicle.

Just curious if anyone has some good parts resources, should I go aftermarket? Never done one of these before but it should be fun.

If you're going to be off on your own away from civilization a rear locker would be nice and/or some means of self recovery.
