and yeah i learned the same thing about CB's, unless your peaked and tuned (i am) all radios only put out 4 watts of power. and its best to spend your money on the antenna and cable and also make sure everything is grounded good...

im running a peaked and super tuned classic 29 and with a 102" whip on a good day i can hit just over 20 miles, depending on terrain and location of course... but with a firestick i get decent numbers around 10-12 miles.... i love it, messing with them truckers...!!! haha :D

I want a 29ltd but I also really like having mine in the ash tray spot. I'm not quite sure the numbers I'm getting, at least a few miles, plenty for me. I always have mine on channel 19, never know what good stuff you'll hear :D I've also just got a ProComm 4' single antenna. Not too bad for what I paid, but will upgrade down the road.

UUOTE=MTopp;8315348]Guys, I think I just got the deal of my life. LR UCAs that are usually 400, but were 36 on Amazon for some reason. This has happened before, but with an ARB offroad bumper and it was legit. So. Stoked.

edit: everyone in my house was asleep last night and I had to tell someone lol[/QUOTE]
Dang if that's legit that will be sick! So 36 for one?
The ash tray spot is awesome for our toyotas how many do you think you could get in best conditions? I still gotta get one I just gotta get some spare monies :D

If it makes you feel any better, I have an 8' bed

Haha but seriously, I'm not sure exactly how many miles I could go in perfect conditions. Def. a few miles, but I've never tried it. I usually just listen to channel 19 or when I'm talking with friends I'm within a few hundred feet of them.

On a side note, I have a super goo chance at getting a job this week. TRUCK PART MONIES :D

8 month contract?! Never heard of that, I work at a camping store as a *sigh* cashier, not a job I love, but it helps me make some money for truck and to save in general. I am more of an outdoor worker, but needed a winter job. If I go away to college and then come back for a break, they'll give me hours also

At least you're making money :) I've been looking for a job for well over a year. It's a grocery store, mainly I'll just be bagging groceries but the paychecks average out to be a little over $110 and you get paid every Friday, so that's not bad :)

Sounds good! I imagine there may be less jobs available for young people where you are than in suburban NJ where there are malls and stores everywhere

yeah id love to stuff mine in the ashtray spot but its way friggin big for that, and im not giving up the radio ive put alot of monies into... hahaha
ill just mount it between the bucket seats on a floor mount, i dont have the center console so that will be the best place for it i guess... and with mine if everything is set up and grounded and tuned right i can get at least a good 20+ miles or so out... not bad considering its not a base station or ham radio...
i did get another goodie in the mail and its an antenna splitter to use my cb antenna as an am/fm antenna, i cant wait to see how good it works. i cant stand static on my radio... only other piece id like to add is an extra swr meter for fine tuning....

If I had money to blow I'd have a sick cb setup. One day

What's this splitter you speak of? I would love to rip my stock antenna off and have my cb antenna pull in both signals.

One antenna for both would be a nice setup

I meant for me haha I can't spend much on a cb but dang 20 miles would be sweet! Yeah static would annoy me pretty bad hahah my truck has about half or maybe 1/3 of its original antenna But I still don't get static  what's a swr meter do? I've never got into tuning any radio before.
Yeah I if I got a cb I would love to have just the single antenna in the back.

When that one day comes, linear amps will be your friend as far as output goes. With a good radio (not a cheap plastic Cobra, buy a good one) it's easy to put out 1000w with a 4 pill driving a 2 pill. That much power will light a florescent bulb if you hold it close to your antenna.

As far as antennas, if you really want good ears then get a monkeymade. But they look kind of ridiculous and the next best thing is a steel whip. For the love of God, if you want a good setup avoid Firesticks and others alike. Also mount it up high like on a bedrack, or all the way at the back of your bed. The metal from your cab can interfere with signal if it winds up between you and who your talking to. Make sure you have a good ground.

We were REALLY into CBs for awhile. Had huge basestations and all that. I could talk an easy 75 miles on a decent hill in my mobile. Best thing you can do is find some old man that's been talking since the 70s and get him to show you everything. Most older men on the radio will be very helpful and they will set you up with great deal on equipment.
